End Turn

I am very confused about how the end turn thingy works. There are times when I click on end turn and the actual date doesnt seem to change, and other times when one of my ships is moving and suddently the date changes. I find it very very VERY confusing and it has managed to make me not feel like playing the game for a while now. Can someone help with either a suggestion or something? :notsure:

When you hit escape there are two options that are screwing you up. The first is called auto turn and ends the turn when all ships have moved. The second is called end turn skips moves left which, if it is off (as in your case, doesn't let you finish your turn until you moved all your ships.

Soooo, if I want it to be like a classic old school turn based game with nothing happening until I click End Turn and when I do it actualy ends the turn, what should I do? :notsure:

Move one of your autopiloted ships manually. That will trigger the autopilots to run. Clumsy method, but i got used to it more or less. I think the find ship button should make your autopilots move.

Probably a simpler way depending upon your symptoms.

If you click the turn button, and the clock icon stays there indefinitely, it generally means that you didn't click through all your planets where construction was completed on something. At the start of each turn you usually get a construction complete report, after which you click next on all your planets until the last planet you view has the done button.

Now if you find a way to kill out of that before going through all your planets, the turn button will sometimes freeze. The way to fix that is to double click on one of the planets and go through the process (confusing sounding I know..it makes more sense when you put it into action)

Sometimes if you think you've moved everything, but you dont see anything happening, try hitting space bar to kick things on through.

I'm not sure if this addresses your situation completely, but give it a try.

Wdll, switch auto turn to off and skip moves left to yes. That way it'll only go to the next turn when you hit the button and it should end turn as soon as you hit the button. If a little clock shows and and it doesn't move to the next turn you probably have a colony ship waiting to land.

I followed the last advice. I click end turn, a communication between me and another race pops up. I click ok, and the month is still the same! Is the End Turn system very confusing or is it just me? I will try more of the advices here later. FRUSTRATED!

Sometimes the date doesn't refresh correctly, but it really has gone to the next turn, and it will update when something forces it to repaint.

If this is an issue, how about adding an "AutoMove Now" button between the "Find" and the "Turn" buttons

That way some people could AutoMove, then do Find and others could do Find, then AutoMove - either order, then give more commands before deciding to end the turn with the "Turn" button.

I played some more and I can see a pattern, I don't know how to spell it but I can see it.

Lets say you have ship(s) on auto to go somewhere and you have moved all your moves. You click end turn. The AI moves the ships around. Your ship doesnt move yet. Its your turn, the date hasn't changed and your auto ships haven't moved yet. The minute you move manualy your first ship then the date changes. That sucks! I don't know why it is happening like this though. Also, some times I might not notice it and the outcome is that I click end turn again, an extra turn is spend for the ship to be moved. I don't like this.
Unless of course I misinterpete (sp?) the signs.

I can still play the game of course. :-)
And I do.

So is this something that might be fixed? As I see it you either have to micromanage more than necessary each of your ships or choose to lose most of the time another turn for something that you shouldn't have to.

Really, the "end turn" button should change color based on whether or not you have any ships with moves left.

The problem is that the "end turn" button does different things. If you have no ships with moves left, it always advances the turn. If you have moves left, and the appropriate user option selected, it moves to the next ship that has a move left.

What I've noticed is that the date and my empires funds don't change after I click end turn until I move my first ship of the next turn. Then everything gets updated.
