My Right Click is kaput!

I posted this same basic issue about a day ago and haven't heard a peep from anyone. I spent over an hour populating the Right Click tool, which is, by the way, a very cool and convienant tool, and now it doesn't work. I can see the submenu's in the appropriate folder but when I turn on Right click they're gone and there doesn't appear to be any way to reconnect to them... at all!

Please help. I really don't want to invest another hour in setting up Right Click only to have it go south on me again.

I've been using RightClick for quite a while and really love it. However, I had the same problem as you, I think, the other day when upgrading to a new version (there have been a couple recently I believe). Other than this RightClick has been really solid most of the time that I have been using it. I've only had two instances where I lost anything.

Most recently, I lost all of the menu items that had sub-menus like Start Menu, Taskbar and System Tray and a couple others I had created manually. I'm not sure what happened or why, but I "think" it had something to do with one of the upgrades??? (just a guess)

In any case, I also just discovered recently that you can backup your RightClick menu by saving these two files:
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\RightClick\RightClick.ini
C:\Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\RightClick\desktopmenu.obbar

if RightClick is not installed in the same location as mine, you will need to make the appropriate adjustments.

I have been saving these files, but have not had the opportunity to do a restore yet because I have not lost anything since I found out about these files. But, it is my understanding that if you lose your RightClick menu, you can copy your backed up versions of these files back to the original locations, replacing the ones that are there, and everything should come back to what it was when you last backed them up.

I hope this helps....

Pyramid36,

What version of RC are you using and which version of Windows?

It's always worked and now out of the blue it has stopped working? Have you tried uninstall RC, rebooting and reinstalling it?

This if from the right-click history:

1.10a Release
-----------------
Some people reported problems with a crash when disabling the
"Show folder in a menu" option for folder shortcuts. It's not impacting
all machines, but this should take care of the ones that are.

1.10 Release
-----------------
-Added a skin editor tool (skintool.exe) to help create RightClick
menu skins. These skins need to moved into the RightClick\Skins
directory after saving them.

Please note that the skin editor requires a
recent version of the .NET Framework 2.0 runtimes
to be installed. Visit
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=7ABD8C8F-287E-4C7E-9A4A-A4ECFF40FC8E&displaylang=en.

-Optimized saving and loading code.

1.00 Release
-----------------
-Initial release.

Check your settings for the "show folder in a menu" option.
