Display problems- xp says i have 2 monitors

I just uninstalled desktopx, and now my display settings say that i have another monitor plugged into my laptop, but i dont. Is there any way for me to disable this two monitor function, as it's screwing up my screen whenever i maximize a window (it doesnt show the start taskbar).

if it makes any difference, i'm running windows xp pro on an ibm thinkpad t42 and my graphics card is an ati mobility radeon 9600

Have you tried Display properties (right-click on your Desktop > Properties) > Settings. You should see two monitors there: 1 & 2. Click on your monitor #2 and untick "Extent my windows desktop onto this monitor" also make sure that "use this device as my primary monitor" is not ticked.
