Greywar's NCAA Picks

Man that took a long time...

Time for a bit less serious topic... I was never a big NCAA basketball fan until I got to Iraq and had nothing to do but follow sports that I usually don't have time for back home. So without further ado :

Yes New Mexico in the Championship game is a bit of a Cinderella story waiting to happen but I think Granger can take them there. No one is beating Wake Forest though.

Beefs?  Let's see, you got UNC advancing too far (they always choke in the early Rounds).

I dont see Wake Forrest going all the way, but then I am not as bold as you to predict who will.  I do like New Mexico as a Cinderella, but I think I just gave them the kiss of death (I am bad about picking the winners).

I dont see Wake Forrest going all the way

I just don't see anyone beating them, including Illinois (who will choke early from tension).

I am not going to bet you on that, as like I said, I am notoriously bad about picking the brackets!

But Wake Forrest already has been beaten and just recently by NC State.  Not exactly a powerhouse this year.

ESPN's Andy Katz is picking them as well.

An aberration I assure you.

Welcome from Tobbacco road!

It's an all ACC Tourny baby!

Duke is going to the dance......

( as an aside, I always pick Duke purely out of respect for the organization
and the fact that, at their level of competition, they graduate more players
than any other comparable program = Truely Student-Atheletes )

Duke seems to do a lot more than UNC.  Even when Dean Smith was there, UNC always seemed to choke.  Except the year that the Ewing led Hoyas passed the ball into James worthy with 12 seconds left!  That was a priceless picture!

ACC all the Way Baby!

Interesting picks, greywar. We have all the same picks for the bracket that has Wake in it. But I have BC, NC State, and Duke going to the final four. I tend to pick ACC teams until they play other ACC teams, and I'm not a big Carolina fan, so that's why NC State advances so far in mine.

Come on Dr. Guy--everyone knows full well that the State loss was directly related to Chris Paul being benched by the Wake Administration for a classless play in the previous game. If Paul had been in the game, Wake would have won hands down. There is also something to be said about the North Carolina schools and their rivalries--a lot of hype and heartache go into those games and often State plays much better ball against Wake, Duke, and Carolina than against Clemons, GA Tech or VA Tech. A more important loss to acknowledge would be the twenty point win by Ilinois back in December.

Interestingly, as much as I hate to admit it, for basketball UNC has a higher rate than Duke. In 2004, UNC was 67% and Duke was 58%--Kansas also had a higher rate than Duke at 60%.

Overall though you are right, Duke has a 94% grad rate for all student athletes.

Greywar!!....New Mexico to the Final Four? You either have the biggest balls I've seen or the smallest brain brother. No way they are making it past round two (I've got two different brackets, and one has them beating Villanova, the other doesn't). I do like your Albuquerque bracket though...looks way solid. Overall, I've got Illinois (although your point about them choking may be valid, but 32 wins in a season is hard to bet against), Wake, Kansas, and Duke going to the Final Four..Good luck on your picks amigo...

It was actually 28 points, after the Illini let them score uncontested points at the end. We were up by almost 40 with a few minutes left.

I'm going to be arragant and say don't think the other teams even have much of a chance. Illinois has virtual home games throughout the tournament. Indianapolis,-Chicago-St. Louis. Illinois wins both Final Four games by over ten points each.

Duke - overrated
Wake Forest - good, but not good enough
Washington - I don't think so
Kansas - even more overrated than Duke (Shove it up your ass, Bill Self)
Arizona - Not good enough
Kentucky - Nah
Louisville - No way
UNC - The biggest challenge, but will still come up short.

Sorry, my comment was supposed to read "twenty plus point"--seems as though I left out a critical word.
