How many habitable planets per map?

Does anyone know how many habitable planets there are for each option? Does "common" mean 50%? Is it a function of the map size? Does difficulty level effect the number of habitable planets? (I don't think it does).
I would like to know because I have abandoned many a game because I have colonized so many more planets than tthe computer oppenets that winning is inevitable. If I knew that with "Common" that out of the 60 star systems on the map only 20 of them are habitable I could try to adjust the number of planets I colonize to balance out the game play.

I'm not sure of the exact math, though there's probably an element of randomness involved. But if you're finding it too easy to beat the AI just try moving their intellingece up a little.

If you don't care about submiting your scores to the Metaverse (and from the looks of your profile, you don't), there's a cheat key (Ctrl-L, IIRC) that evenly distributes habitable systems and resources among the major races.
