Finding "iffy" systems quickly

I tend to explore like crazy in the beginning and grab good (15+ PQ) systems. Later on I backfill the PQ 13 and 14 systems. But it's a bitch to find those systems. Is there something I'm missing in the planet view that shows the PQs of planets in a system, or am I doomed to repeatedly click all my stars thinking "I think it was around here somewhere".

I have the same problem. I don't know of any way to get a complete list of planets with their PQ listed. :(

AFAIK there isn't any list or a way to get one. When I come across a system with a PQ14 planet I might want to colonize at a later time, I write down the coordinates next to a map (small box with dots inside) of just the sector containing the planet. I often check system planet quality in the other Major's areas as I sometimes like to colonize a system right in the middle of a civilization I'm at war with (usually later in the game).

In the early stages of the game, after the initial social production rush, I set my lowest quality planets on colony ships production. Whenever a colony ship is completed, I load 20 million colonists and sent it toward the edge of my range. While exploring, if I spot a planet I might want to colonize, I use F9 and select the closest colony ship and send it to park under the planet. In the late stages of the game, if I decide I could use a plnet in a section of the map, I zoom in a bit on the F9 screen and quickly spot any useful planet by the ship parked under it. That may not be a very elegant system, but it beats clicking on all the stars over and over again! ;)

I play in windowed mode, and keep track of the good planets in a notepad file as I find them, along with whether or not I sent a colony ship that way.

Is there anyway to get an option where you can select that PQ14 planet and have an option to tell your empire to send the next available colonizer to it? Or something to this affect? So you "mark" the planet, then click on the planet listings and find the planet you want to build the colonizer and maybe have a pop up asking how many citizens should be loaded and the next you hear about it is in a pop up saying the planet was colonized.

I use something like Greldon's map, but it's a simple page-size grid I create in my word processor. If a game sector has a 13 or 14 in it I write a tiny 13 or 14 in the grid square corresponding to that sector, then colonize when I need to or want to. I do the same for anomalies, rocks, etc. as well as enemy-held systems. I put a bit of color (yellow magic marker) on my sectors, so it's easy to tell at a glance where everything is - especially systems you want to subvert!

Man, I hate low PQ planets hehe. I wouldn't colonize 15's except someone else will get them first. Been considering gifting them to fundies of ileague as a matter of practice.

You could use rally points to mark the planets on the map.

good point, thanks

Argh, I don't remember the exact instructions on how to get it. But you bring up the planet listing on the right-hand side. Then choose "Star List" or something like that (the third button at the top of the list, I think, next to "Tactical map") then scroll through the sort orders again until you get PQ ordering option.

I know I've used this to find PQ 14 planets with a base influence of 20 or more (a very rare occurrance).

Okay, I take it back. I've used it to find STARS with good base influence, not planets. Hence the name "Star List". It doesn't show planets.

Sorry if I got your hopes up....

Yes...it only shows the number of habitable planets in the star system. Not very useful after the begining, in the search for PQ14 planets (they do not count as habitable I guess) (:(

I hope I don't get booted out of this place after this post . . . gulp.

Um, the first Galactic News event I read should be . . .

'Humans have stolen the Stellar Cartography Maps for the Whole Galaxy!'

I've always had a peek at what's out there (If you can call using f9, printing the screen and reloading after noting all the habitable and semi-habbitable planets having a peek?) . . .

I've always thought this was fair since humans (as they are poised today) have the spectroscopy to identify the basic structure and composition of over 100 identified planets already cataloged in the nearer quarters of our galaxy.

Aiming to beat other collonists to various systems makes IMHO the game alot more fun too . . . if you try it you'll see what I mean.

Is that an axe being grinded that I can hear in the distance? :SURPRISED:
