Map Editor

Anyone who is having problems with the map editor please check these first before replying:

1) Do you have the latest version of DirectX?

2) Does dxdiag report any errors? Is 3D acceleration enabled?

3) Do you have your latest video drivers?

If these are all OK, please describe your problem and post your dxdiag report (just the system info and the part related to your video device will be fine)

Since I download DX9 works fine, but a small walkthrough of how to use it would be nice. ;)

What's dxdiag? Can I check it after rebooting the machine since the program freezes it?
I have DirectX9, up to date drivers, 3D acceleration on. I might have to check if that DirectX version is really the latest/most correct, though. If it's needed, you should really distribute the DirectX version with the program, at least after the beta (the way most games do).

LDiCesare,
just click on start->run and type dxdiag. It will bring up an analysis program which details all the DirectX stuff. That is where the system info report will be.

It would be nice to have a zoom-in-out functionality.
Not a bug ;)

It is unlikely that we would take it back to DX8 unless more people have compatibility issues on Windows, as opposed to WineX.

It seems to me that one of my friends told me that someone is working on new libraries that will support DX9, although I'm not certain that it was WineX.  I'll see if I can find out what he was talking about this weekend.

Any booklet of instructions about how to use the editors, the help file is missing. (:(

:) Sorry, Joe didn't write any documentation.  I have suggested it to him, though.

Umm, not sure. I'll ask Joe when he gets back on Monday how long it would take him.

Stupid question. I just downloaded the beta, made a new map of my own, but can't figure out how to load it for play.

Can anyone tell me what I'm overlooking?

Thanks

When you go to pick your map, click the map size over past Gigantic to Custom, and then a new area should light up that lets you select Custom Maps. Your map should be there.

The editor really needs the capability of generating a random map, just like the game does.

Also, I can't seem to find the editor help file. Is there one, and if so, where?

I have created my custom map, it pretends to save, yet it doesn't seem to save no matter what directory or loaction I've tried. I would have assumed it should be saved in the Custom Maps folder but that obviously didn't work for me either.

Anyone have a suggestion for me?

Thanks Tigg

sixtyfour: I think that there's a randomize option. There should be a folder called editor docs in your Altarian Prophecy directory.

tiggrsrfun: What OS? Is it creating a temp file in the directory where you try to save?  If it is, try renaming that temp file to a .gcmap file and see if you can load it.

I did make a new version of all the editors because there was definitely some kind of weirdness going on.  I'm not sure how soon we'll be posting them because we may want to wait and see if we need to make other changes to the campaign, etc before we put up another build.

None of the editors save for me. WindowsXP.

It goes through the processes and seems to save but the file never shows up, even doing a complete computer search shows all the original map/scenarios etc but the ones I make just vanish.

I'm running XP as well. Ok I made another map this morning, tried to save it to the Editor folder but again it's no where to be found. It is not making temp files or making anything for that matter. I even tried opening one of your pre-built custom maps and saving as another name, but that didn't work either.

Guess I'll wait for the new version.

Thanks
Tigg

I am running Windows XP DX 9.0b (no errors from dxdiag) and I can't save a map either :( I guess from this thread that others arn't having this problem? I tried saving it in the root directory on different disks still doesn't save. I don't see any temp files either.

I think that SDC failed to update the editors the last time.  I'm going to have to check into that today as soon as someone gets here who can publish builds.

I tried again to create a map, with DirectX 9b. I didn't crash immediately, but couldn't create anything and it was very very slow. I had to reboot to get out of there, and when restarted, the OS told me that my video card had a problem. It's an ATI Mobile Radeon. It looks like my drivers are uptodate.

I'd like too see a proper editor with the ability to edit planets beyond just owner and class, place a full range of ships. I hope the gold version has this or I won't probably ever use the editor.

Omnisloth, I'm having that problem as well.

I cannot save maps either. First time using it and looks really good and easy to use. I assume this is a new bug that has come up with not being able save. I wish there was at least a workaround to it.

The editor must save the file somewhere. When I go back into the editor I can open the custom map I created, but I can not play the map.
