Logon Studio help, please

Hey guys, am trying to make logons of my own to match some great walls that I found, I can do it the simple way (open Logon Studio of a logon that I like the looks of - click edit - click on the pic on the left hand panel and substitute my pic for the one already there. But this is cheating!!! Is there a tutorial on how to do it from scratch or some templates available where I could color things my way? I have tried a search and came up empty. Perhaps I was looking in the wrong place (I am a newbie after all). Thanks B

It a step in the right direction kinda. Instead of modifying, create a new. Same principle, you just start with the default, than save as.

Did you look in the help file, under index?

Duh..told you I was I newbie...how could I have missed that!!! Any other Tutorials availabe, aside from the help file? I could use a step by step one if there is such a thing. Thanks much. B

Couldn't find one. The help is pretty good. What you doing with switching is the basics. play with the right hand options, the little grey boxes, the line items, panes, dividers, etc. See what's there and what can be changed. Look at one you like and see what settings and such were used.

You'll be surprised how much you will pick up on it pretty quick.

I'm a newb at all this & I've made a couple with my daughter as the focus & some with wallpaper I liked.

Thanks, working on a pic that I took at New Years up at Long Beach, BC. Problem is that it is in TIFF and when I change it to bitmap, and make it the correct sixe. I get some color problems at the bottom of the pic (it has dark trees in the foreground as it was taken at dawn) some of the color is replaced with blue or purple patches! I will keep trying - I like to learn something new as often as I can. My photoshop experience is exactly one week of making mistakes and checking things out. Thanks for the help. B

I found looking over the UIFILE.txt code, and modifying things here and there turned out better, as i could do alot more things that cant be done in LogonStudio.
I left comments all over the code so that its easy to modify things and work out what lines do what..
Im gonna get a tutorial done real soon, cause theres alot ive worked out to do that logon studio doesnt/cant do, and even some things noone else has worked out (like displaying the welcome text).

Thanks everyone...I am having a blast learning all this stuff...still haven't figured out how to get rid of those top and bottom panels and just have my pic, but there's always tomorrow. I have managed to a)change some wallpapers into bitmaps (although I'm still having problems changing Tiff files into bitmaps without losing pixels. b) make simple logons with the bitmaps (including changing those pesky top and bottom sections into varied colors that meld into one another).C) moving the user box all around, editing the fonts and all. And all this for a newbie without any background in computing except to play Tetris, Mah Jong and do a little book keeping.

I am looking forward to your Tutorial Mr. Archangel Douglas.

I've notice different things convert or resize differently. I don't have photoshop. I play with several things sometimes to see which works what. PSP coupled with irfanview, mgi, photoimpression, paint, etc. Irfanview's free and does a pretty good resample/resize and handles lots of formats.

still haven't figured out how to get rid of those top and bottom panels


Under Elements,go to the "top panel" selection. Under properties, below, change the height to 0. Do the same for the bottom panel.
