If I knew that I would have it myself..No Arapaho, I am sorry, I do not. But yes, as soon as they release the program for general use it will work I am sure of that. I started a thread here concerning the very same thing entitled *Problem with Suites* just in case you want to read up on everything that has transpired in my own investigations.

You know there's been several threads concerning problems with theme manager over the last couple of months. I don't have any proof but I think this is connected to the way some computers with the SP2 upgrade download files. They convert (mine is one with this problem) any compressed file, regardless of the extension, to a zip file. This would make it hard for a proggie like theme manager to autoinstall those files. Like I say I can't prove it but it seems a real possibility.

Arapaho,

One thing you might try is verifying whether it is a local problem (the program installed on your computer), or a network/internet problem downloading.

I have not used the free version, so I am assuming that the program comes with a couple of suites and that you have at least a couple of the programs such as WindowBlinds, IconPackager, etc. installed on your machine. If this is the case, then you can try the procedure below.

Perform the following: disconnect from the internet > return windows to the default state > uninstall Theme Manager program > reboot computer > go to "C:\Program Files\Stardock" folder and delete any "ThemeManager" folder left there > reinstall Theme Manager program > reboot computer > load Theme Manager and select any suite that offers a "Apply" button on the lower right of dialog > Apply the suite.

The program should then start writing to the individual directories and applying the suite using the programs such as WindowBlinds, IconPackager, etc. (for this test you do not need to download any additional programs to apply the complete suite, we just want to see if the Theme Manager program is interacting correctly with the OS and other programs already installed).

If the prepackaged suites apply correctly, then the program and computer are interacting correctly and the issue is not "local".

One possible option if you still have problems with downloading suites would be to uninstall Theme Manager temporarily and download the suites. I believe this will give you a file that (after reinstalling Theme Manager) you can manually copy to the "C:\Program Files\Stardock\ThemeManager\Themes" folder - (if the downloaded file is a ".zip" change extension to ".suite" and copy)

You can also change a .suite file to a .zip and extract, then copy the individual components found inside to their respective directories (folders), although this is manually doing a lot of what Theme Manager does automatically and I am not sure you would be interested in doing.

Sorry for the long explanation, especially if the free version does not come with any prepackaged suites.

I hope this helps in some way.

Corky, even though I was sure it would do absolutely no good, I tried what you suggested..I copied and pasted your instructions to notepad, I downloaded a fresh copy of theme manager, I uninstalled, rebooted, deleted, rebooted, reinstalled onyl to have the exact same scenario..if I wasnt so bored I would not have attempted it..::laughs:: but what the hey, it was something to do..

The problem is not a local one..most definitely..

Thanks tho!,

Zero,

It was worth a try anyway, at least you have verified the issue as local.

Has anyone e-mailed Stardock support to see when a new free version will be made available?

Well, I am going to just subscribe and get all the goodies that come along with that..::laughs:: but No, I dont think anyone has..

I suppose to be more correct I should say I am going to finally purchase Object Desktop and along with that I think there is a subscription attached...
I could be wrong though, apparently some things have changed..::laughs:: we'll see

Object Desktop will give you a one year subscription which includes Stardock Central. This is the program you run and it has all the downloadable programs for the suite as well as other free and purchasable software.

It is a great set up which shows you any updates available as soon as you load it, and has links to news groups and other nice features.

I find it to be a great bargain.

Note - WinCustomize subscriptions are a seperate purchase.

Alright, I see that I had it completely "Bass Ackwards" LoL..What I need to do actually is just purchase what software I actually want from stardock, and subscribe to Wincustomize..I dont,,It seemed to me that when I first purchased WB's that I read something about a years subscription to both Wincustomize and Stardock..but that may have been only if I purchased Object Desktop at that point in time?.. I dont know..but..Ok..
After reading through both sites I see now..

Thanks Corky,
Sooo I am a little slow at times..LoL
