Starbases stack/no stack: Suggestion

Hi Frogboy&Co,

I've just seen the current poll... their seem to be more people who think starbases should stack, but not much more.
So I thought, the best solution would probably be to let the players decide - implement the choice 'Starbases stack/don't stack' as part of the game settings, along with AI settings and stuff. Don't know how hard this would be, but I think it wouldn't be to complicated... and everybody could play the way he/she prefers.

I think what people really want is diminishing returns:
First starbase in a sector gives 100% effect, second 50%, third 33%, fourth 25%, etc.

For the contray I want first 100%, second 150%, third 200%, fourth 250%, etc. ;)

The goal of this game is to win the game, not to play to loose, if you want to do that, then just build homes and wait for the AIs to come and destroy your planets. ;)

I can't see why you're making such a sybilline comment. The goal of all games is to have fun, trying to win the game. I can't see what the rules have to do with the fact you want to win or not. The ai should use starbases as players do. If you like beating an ai that can't build as many starbases as you, ok for you, but I like to play without cheesy tactics like "let's build a +100000% culture bomb". I often win without building any starbase except on resources. So what's your point?

oUCHHHHHHHHHHH, seems that you are the only one entitled to have an opinion, excuse me for making such and idiotic comment from my part/

I still don't get your point.
Your first post made sense, and I respect that opinion. I didn't criticize it.
Your second post just doesn't make sense to me, so I asked for clarifications and spoke about what might be the point. I can't see the relation between a rule detail and the goal of the game being to win. Could you clarify that for me? I just stated that starbases were not necessary to win, so relating the starbases to winning seems a moot point. The question is whether they are fun. I said that it's ok for anyone to build as many starbases as they like, but that I find it cheesy until the ai can do the same. Where did you read I didn't entitle someone to have their opinion?

The point is that we keep complaining about the small details of the game, this game is not perfect and we will never be satisfied 100% with the game because each player has a different style of game, I like for the starbases to add more points not to add less influence points, specially in a game where my military is lower than the AIs, the AI's receive plenty of advantage from the beginning of the game, they know where the best planets are, 90% of the time they get the Wonders before you do, in all my games the game Battleship technology before I do, so what means to have a little of advantage for us playing against them, specially when you play at higher levels. So definitely I like the idea of stacking starbases, and like someone else said maybe you should have an option at the beginning of the game where you could choose if you want to stack or not the starbases.

I'd feel better if the ai did use starbases efficiently and had lower bonuses in the other areas. This is the real improvement I'd like to see with starbases: Let the ai use them intelligently.

As I said in another thread about the poll, I agree with LDiCesare: diminishing returns is the way to go. I think it is more logical, realistic, and help prevent human players from taking advantage of some AI's shortcomings. And it will still allow to have a big bonus if you have an optimal number of starbases.
On the other hand, I do need all the advantages I can get, since I don't seem to be able to beat the AI in the latest builds (I had taken a big pause after 1.05, too much work to do , to little time to play).
But now I think the game is great (it already was).

I, for one depend on the use of star bases to boost productivity and economy as this is often the only way a mediocre player such as myself can compete with the AI. So anyway I'd like for them to stay just as they are.:notsure:
