Piranas in my Bed

I felt something bite into my shoulder blade. I startled and looked, and there was my baby Michael getting comfortable. I was too sleepy to ask why the heck he bit me. So back to sleep.
Moments later something bit my foot! "AAAGGGHH!" I sat bolt upright, the shoulder bite still fresh in my memory, and looked to the foot of my bed. There's no way Michael could've done that too. No, it was the cat.I must have been wiggling my toes or something. He loves batting at things under blankets.
But sheesh. What a rude awakening, guys! Pretty soon I'm going to have to banish the cat and the baby to their own rooms...and why not the husband while I'm at it. This communal sleeping thing is sweet and all, but as you can see it can be really annoying too.
On a more reflective note, there've been quite a few times in my life that I've been awakened by things that no one else can hear (or feel)...like the sound of something crashing to the floor in another room. Or the sound of a car screeching away in the dead of night, only to find that no such thing happened. I posted this phenomenon in a discussion forum recently, and some people suggested that it might be that I simply needed to wake up. Something in my subconscious jarred me awake, because there was something I needed to get done. Hmmm... It strikes a familiar chord with me, but it's still kinda freaky. *fade in twilight zone theme song*
I can see why I'd need something weird to wake me up though. I've become decidedly impervious to the sound of alarms, and people nudging me awake. I love sleeping, and nothin' is gonna wake me up unless I'm completely willing...or scared out of my mind.
