Parents Are Gone, Kids Will Play

My parents are gone for the weekend. They left this morning at about 5am and won't be back until 5pm sunday night. So that means I get to take care of my brothers for about four days. Or so I thought, turns out adopted grandma Bertha will be spending most of the time here.
Not that I mind. I was thinking I'd take care of them, make sure they were fed, shove them out the door for school, keep them away from matches, and generally play the part of parental unit. But instead she'll be doing that and it looks like I'll be living as usual. Was odd when I found out, mom said Bertha was feeling like she wasn't needed so I should make sure she feels needed.
Generally that might not mean let her do all the work, but when it was mentioned in the context of 'these are the things that need to be done and this is why you don't have to do them', well that sounds like let her do all the work to me. Not that I'm complaining
A few years back my parents went to france for a week, and we had almost two feet of snow while they were gone. It's snowing right now, perhaps we're looking at a repeat
Right before they left my dad gave me a packet of stuff in case they didn't come back. On the one hand, it's good to accept your own mortality and plan ahead like that. But on the other hand, why is this only mentioned when they are leaving? Shouldn't the location of such information be known all the time anways?
So I get to play almost parent for the weekend, yeah me.

In the immortal words of Nick from one of the Greatest most Under-appreciated TV show in history...

"KEGGERRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!"

Since adopted Grandma Bertha will be "doing all the work" by your parents order, you might as well invite her too, I mean, how much can she drink anyway... right??

Hmmmmmmm, did I type all that out loud? ;~D

I used to have parties when my parents were gone all the time. Back when I was in high school and to a lesser extent college. They would leave for the weekend for whatever reason every month or so and I'd have a bunch of friends over. And I still think they have no idea I did that.
But it's a bit different now, I don't know anyone that would be able to come over, and more importantly if I did they most likely have their own place. Course, my brothers could try and have a party, that would be amusing

When I was living at my parents (for about a year while I slaved away for a nonprofit and couldn't afford to buy a candy bar much less pay rent), I loved when they went away for a week or so. It was freedom--not that they were hard to live with, but still, it was nice to have the place all to myself. Of course, I didn't have any siblings at home that I had to share this freedom with--just a dog and two cats.

Enjoy your weekend.

If not a party, at least a rousing, extended play RPG session!!! ;~D

Man I miss the 24 hour AD&D Games!!!

btw, I just scrolled up and noticed that I didn't actually include the title of the "greatest most under appreciated TV show in history" Nick was on, Freaks & Geeks. (for what it's worth. ;~D

shadesofgrey: Yeah, I always enjoy the times the whole family leaves and I have the place to myself. Even if I don't really do anything different, it is more relaxing.
ParaTed2k: Well they do play star wars RPG, which is basicaly dungeons and dragons in space (d20, made by the same people and all). So an extended play session might happen

One time my parents and kid sister went to Canada for a week and I had a blast! Played music as loud as I wanted to, watched whatever I wanted to on tv and loving that I didn't have to watch their shows!
I ate them outa house and home, and went out every night ( to the roller rink) I wasn't wild or anything.....boy, , it sure wouldn't be any different if I was a kid again....ROFL
