Question about huge or bigger galaxies! (beyond human win)

In my previous game on a 'large' map, I managed a 'beyond human' win, without too much trouble. I finished the tech tree before I defeated everyone. Not really a problem ofcourse, but it made me think. What happens on larger maps??? On these maps, you generally need more time to conquer everyone. I can imagine having reached a 'beyond human' win before even seeing the entire galaxy.....

Or does the game slow down research on bigger maps?

Or, does the game "slow down research" on bigger maps?

Someone mentioned this in a thread I read somewhere recently. Last night I think. From that they seemed pretty certain that, yes, required research is scaled up for larger maps.

That's not official, though! But it would fit my observations, having played at least one game on each map size. Best I can do, I'm afraid!

I don't think so, no, but I could be wrong. If you don't want to win a tech victory you could just stop doing research once you reach Final Frontier, or you could disable a tech win. I usualy focus on tech when I play, and so most of my wins have been beyond human.

The base research cost remains the same regardless of map size. There is an undocumented research cost multiplier that scales with the number of techs you already hold though, and its value may or may not vary with map size. On gigantic maps, it works out to +0.75% per technology you already have (+100% spread out over 150 or 151 techs). Maybe someone can load up an old game on a smaller map size to see if that multiplier is the same.

Thanks everyone for your answers! Is a 'diplomat' someone from within Stardock? If yes, I'll trust:

Tech costs scale with galaxy size!
Go ahead and play largere galaxies. Things take longer to research to balance against the more planets you'll have.

But I wouldn't mind seeing an even laaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrger tech tree ;)
