Username in Start Menu...

I personally use whatever is used in the skin
If you want to go by what others want, you wont ever finish a skin.

I'd say, use whatever you like/use or whatever fits the individual skin!

.. good advice.. Just want to be sure people, in general are ok with a "username-less" start menu. I suppose my next few steps will be decided by the response[s] here. Thanks for the speedy response.

Since your the skinner, its your responsability to give the users a great piece of skinwork. So its up to you weather its enabled or disabled. My suggesstion as i do, I create a Style with the user name enabled and then clone it for a substyle in which the username is disabled.

ok.... gotta add though, that my personal preference is no username in the startmenu of the skins I make myself.
Why?
Because I like the startmenu to be compact and 'un-cluttered'. Making space for the username will only add alot of 'wasted' space.

And really..... how usefull is the username actually?! I mean... unless you're on a machine with a kazillion users, how often do you need to know which user is logged on?

yea.. I have to make my compact start menu, still because as it stands, the one I have now is gargantuan on 1024x768 resolutions. [esp. if large icons are used] ..

A "User Name" and "User Pic" tend to make it a little more personal for the mere mortals.

i couldnt care less about a user pic or the name ...if the skin is killer ...

... I really dont care about a user name... I mean, if you are the one logged on, how often are you going to forget what your username is?

second, I like it when the skin author creates a userpic to go along with the skin, but depending on the skin, if there is no userpic and the author has hidden it and done something clever with all the space left over from no username and pic, I think that is great too.

I don't really mind about the username one way or the other. It is a bit annoying when the skin has a space built in for a user pic (I typically don't use one) because it causes the username to be displaced or overlap the user pic space which looks odd.

Personally I don't even look at it, it's not like I don't even know my own name lol. But yeah if a skin was made with no user name, it would be fine by me

While it takes space it also provides a shortcut to user accounts. So its a Space vs Time matter. Therefore By looking at the above comments i WILL STILL stick to my suggestion that include two substyles, one with User Pic and name and another without them. This will hardly take up disk space and will also satisfy both sides

I've recently taken to disabling the user pic in skins. Like in the update to WindowsXL. Even though it has matching user pics, when you use WBs custom colouring the user pic no longer matches... 'nuff said.

Dunno if there's much need for a username either. Though if I've had a few beers it reminds me what my name is...
