We are our parents

Ok, let's try this: When you were a kid, what did your mom or dad say to you when you got into trouble that you found yourself saying to your child when they got in trouble?

This was stated to two of my nephews while on the way to an amusement park: "if you don't stop bothering your brother, I'm turning this car around and we're going home!"

The thing that truly amazed me about it was that I never thought I'd be saying something like that to my kids (or nephews as the case may be).

It's the Curse of the Parents. Every Parent does it to thier Child.
"I hope you have a child turn out Just Like You!" and then Pow! you are clobbered from the Get Go. I find myself in the same situation with my Daughter, alot! She has decided that this is the year she loses her mind. She is in her Junior Year of High School, and trying to act a Damned fool.

Hah, yep, done that one as well. Sometimes it frightens me just how much like my father I have become. But I turned out okay, so I suppose it will work for my kids as well.

Man, Cygnus are you ever right!!! My son is just like me, so now I really know what my moma had to put up with.

Guess that's why when he gets into trouble I try not to be too hard on him, because I see myself in him.

The kid is funny too. He's managed to escape 'time out' or in some cases a spankin' because I was laughing too much.

I recently put the curse on our 13 year old boy, only I wished him to have 6 kids just like him. mUwhAhahahahA.

Just because I said so. I don't have to explain all my decisions to you, I am the parent. When you are the parent you can make the decisions.

My mama took forever in the bathroom. Dad said "I'm NOT going anywhere." or "Hurray up." We were suppose to go to a family reunion. Well, Dad & I went window shopping at downtown. It was alright. I wanted to go the family reunion. Someone asked me how come we didn't go, I said, "I don't know."
When hubby & I fight, I say "I'm NOT going... I still go. Ugh! I'm still act both of my folks.

I am neither of of parents... period.
though I do think we are a product of the conditioning by our parents which stands to reason as all animals have some form of parental imprinting which helps form who they become.

Oh, I am not like any of my parents.  My parents were so patient, I don't know how they did it. But then again, I have two, and they had only one. Alone, they are angels. Together they are your worst nightmare.

Hey Paxx, how do you think you turned out? I mean, you were an only child. How was your life as an only? I ask 'cause my son is our only child and after having dealt with him for just two years, my wife says, "No more, the factory is shut down."

I would be ok with that, but I theink my son needs a sibling(?) in order to learn those lessons you have to learn when you have a brother or sister. Plus you have other people to get in trouble with.

juryguy: I don't know.  As a child I always wanted a sibling. I never was and still am not a very sociable person. I'm kind of a loner.  I always thought that it was the result of me being an only child, but now that I have two sons myself, I don't know anymore. My first child is just like I was: he doesn't talk to other kids, he's kinda happy doing his own thing or maybe with one only selected friend. My second son is the opposite, always chatting to everybody.

So, now I'm wondering, maybe I'm not like that because I was an only child but beause that is just the way I am, period. Seems that way because my own son is not an only child and seem to have inherited that personality trait. :/

I am a single child also, I didnt turn out like my parents, they had siblings. Being a single child makes you more independant on your own and devellopes a new behavior that ppl arent used to I guess.
