First of, if you don't believe in the Bing Bang and Evolution

1st, a niggle: The big bang and evolution are scientific theories. There's no call to "believe in" them as such - you evaluate the evidence and make a reasoned decision as to the credibility (or not) of the theory.

A question: what actually constitutes "all our known history" as you mention? Once we know this we can work out our own lifetimes in relation to the 15 sec!

I think it's all a Government conspricy....I don't think there is a Universe

I was watching the very first episode of Cosmos, today and have the second episode in right now. I am doing a Sagan / Cosmos Marathon.
I had to explain to my wife that the SETI proggy she runs, was a direct decendent of Carls, establishing SETI Program, and also let her know He wrote, Contact and Broca's Brain, and also how ground breaking the Astrophysics for the Masses "Cosmos" was for the Average Joe, in the 80's.
This is just to damn creepy. To bad old Carl died, he will be missed and I am sure He would have a thing or two to say to Hawking about his latest Theories on Black holes and Uncoherant / Unorganized Mass.
I happen to like the Cosmic Foam, ideas as well as String theory.
Being a True Scifi, Fan I eat this type of stuff up.

AFAICR, the thinking is that monkeys and humans both evolved (in different directions) from a common ancestor: the so-called 'missing link'. We're two branches off the same stem.

My answer to your question is this:
There are Holes permeating the idea of evolution just as evolutionists feel that there are holes in the Adam and Eve theory. The Idea of a Big Bang works for both beliefs. Was all matter balled up in one big ball and then it exploded on its own or was there some intervention. The original thread from paxx stated if you dont believe in the Big Bang and Evolution then it was not for you. Well in a sense, I do believe in both but not in the sense that I came from a friggen monkey. I certainly did not discuss religion, I simply put out a question that was meant to gain an understanding as to why a person can actually believe they came from a monkey.

The Big Bang is a believable theory IMO and an interesting discussion point.

I'll quote it once again for those that missed it the first two times.
