Your product has somewhat messed up my desktop

Hello everyone! I'm a big fan of program skins and everything that comes with it and i must say I love this site, however, today I have a problem.

I was browsing through the site like I do every once in a while and noticed the "suite" section. While browsing there I noticed a nice OS X suite and decided to try it out. I hence downloaded "ThemeManager" and tried installing the suite, but before it let me it asked me to install all the other programs needed, so I did as it asked. The suite was up and everything was working wonderfully, I must congratulate whoever put everything together. But then I got a problem, I, not being familiar with mac's, unloaded everything and after some thought decided to stick to just using windowblinds and keeping everythign else the same. To do this i successfully uninstalled every program that I had installed.... but now I have a weird bug on my desktop. When I try to drag an icon, the drag messes up, and even more, I cannot put two icons next to each other.... look at the following screenshot:

The red arrows show where the icon is normally and where it should be, and if you take a look at the cursor you will understand the problem. I am 99.99% sure this comes from one of the programs I got from here due to the fact that I haven't installed anythign for a while and that the bug didn't exist 10 minutes ago.

I also tried rebooting twice.... that didn't work. Please someone help me as it is very frustrating!

probably shouldnt have uninstalled all those programs till you restored your desktop back to the way you wanted it.You dont have to use all of them simultaneously.Just run the ones you want.Try reinstalling them and turning them off first.Then you can probably uninstall the ones you dont want.

I did think of that and went to every program and restored it to "classic" or whatever the default is, but Im reinstalling/uninstalling anyways... anyone have any other suggestion?

none, this is the first time i ever tried skinning XP itself...

I just finished installing and uninstalling everything.... still the same. I also noticed that it wasn't just for the desktop but all the icons on my computer.... so even folders look wacky now...

The only Stardock app that would even effect those is Icon Packager...sound familiar?

Hmmmmm I just reinstalled the icon packager, set up new icons, tried, nothing, brought everything back to normal, uninstalled, rebooted... I still have the problem

This is really guetting on my nerves too, navigating in My Computer is basically impossible...

What are your system specs? What other GUI programs are you running?
It sounds to me like some other program may be chewing up all your system resources. Then, when you installed another program, you started to run your system on empty. Spyware can do this too.

Try installing and running this program to make sure you don't have a spyware problem. Spybot Search and Destroy will clean your system of spyware. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html

System specs? lol nah, that's not a problem. P4 2.66Ghz 256RAM 80 gig HD..... my specs aren't a problem lol

Spyware? I highly doubt it... i despise spyware so much that i've got ad-aware, spybot AND spywareblaster.... lol

so those two possibilies are pretty canned...

And to ChasUGC i downloaded a suite and when i tried to install it it basically asked me to install everything that is on the Theme Manager list...

look at your Theme settings in your display properties...

The Tab all the way to the left and see if it is followed by (modified) on the name of the theme being used...

Windows XP(modified) <- like that

if so pick one which isn't modified...

hmmmm.....

reboot into safe mode, then reboot into normal and see if it restores?

I have had systems which the icons went wackybobo on when the power cout out on it because the power cable had been snatched from the wall my a chair leg...

I was messing with it and messing with it and nothing worked, got upset and jumped up pushing my chair back which hooked the power cable.

plugged it back in and booted later on, everything was fine...

weird huh... Windows XP is NOT the Holy Grail, but the best thing going for now I guess.

Okay yrag, I got it.

I will fix your system guaranteed or your money back. Send the airline ticket and $100 per hour. If you don't want to try the suggestions, this is the best alternative.(yrag may give you a better rate)

Another suggestion- 256 Ram is a bit low. Try more ram. A gig of ram never hurts on a P4 system. Something is eating your memory. You can try ctrl-alt-delete and check your performance, mostly Physical memory. You probably have under 100MB free or less. I think your problem is low memory and too many running processes. But, if you won't run a spybot search, or tell what programs you have installed, I'll have to switch to my first alternative. Good Luck.

I ran ad-aware when you told me and it didnt find anything, spybot now found some stuff but im guessing i just got this right now (was in some dodgy website lol)

And what do you mean programs installed? Stardock programs? Recent programs? or all programs?

I'm guessing its NOT a memory problem

Oh, btw, safe-mode boot didnt work

So after scanning... what do i do?

Hmm try rebuilding Icon cache. iconpackager has that, just click that then reboot. It could be corrupted icon cache.
