SDC 2.00.280 Stole My Screen Space!

Just got the latest SDC update... and I'm a bit disappointed about the screen usage.

I'm happy with the right hand list of sub-sections, but could do without the gratuitous Stardock banner along the top. It's hard enough to read the message board threads at 1024 x 768 without losing more lines for a link I already know

I don't mind the banner at the top as much as the space at the right. If the list of sections at the right could be resized, it would be fantastic. Right now, instead of having three colums for the web browser, there are four (including the right hand list of "sub-sections"). That makes the space for the message board too small.

If I could resize that right hand column, I would be a happy camper.

What right column?

OK, I screwed up, I don't seem to know my right from my left.

It is the one over on the left. The one that contains:
Object Desktop
Games
WinCustomize
Misc
Free Stuff
News
Discussion
Chat
Web Browser
Skins and Themes
Store
JoeUser

Oh...ok. That is kinda annoying.

Yeah... it's ugly... like take her out back and shoot her type ugly.

I find the new SDC very unattractive.  Personally would like to see Stardock make their own programs a little more customizable. What a concept!

How about a checkbox that shows, unshows the top banner?

I was thinking about that yesterday, Koasati. It would be better if the user had a little more control over them.

(personally, I think the WB config box needs to be totally reworked. )

Good idea, Brad! Also, resizable left area would be cool.

I don't get what was wrong with the old version.

Brad....a checkbox for the top banner...and some way to shrink or hide/show the left section.

It's particularly irksome when using SDC for IRC Chat...[as I do]....and I've used the beta prior to the new release so am aware of its annoyances of scale....

Agreed!!

Oh and for the record I don't like the look and feel of the new SDC. Although I hardly use it I still like the old one better.

Yup, just got the new version of SDC and I'm kinda disappointed. Liked the old version much better. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It was much cleaner having the present left side listings on top minus the banner. What's the purpose of the banner? We all know it's stardock since we paid for the apps, but we didn't pay for a banner to take up space.

Giz - if you like the old better just go to C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral and click on 'Restore' and it will take you right back to the former.

OK....I'll be the first to say "I love the new Layout" Thanks Stardock. However, In the beta version, the S logo was sitting Pretty on the top..Looked great...

..now its totally different, but I'll live

I Kinda like it, but agree with the checkbox for the graphic, and scalable (or on/off) left panel.

And perhaps it would look a little neater if the graphic were the same width as the left panel, and shrunk with scale relative to the size of the panel.

...just throwin' in my thoughts.

Thanks Yrag...I'll check that out!

Had to use the "restore" function.

I kinda like the new layout myself.. I do agree that the ability to hide the top banner, the left pane and the descriptions would be really nice. I mean the descriptions at the bottom barely contain any useful information anyway so why even bother. Also, are there plans to make the icons for the options in the left pane more interesting than just the default ico image?

Randy you saying it's a Two Bagger?

One for it and one for you in case it's bag falls off?

I rather like it as a simple interface goes.

It would be nice if you could change the layout like you can in say ACDSee so the different frames can be placed inside the app display (container) as you like. Also maybe an option for display text, icon or text and icons in the menus. ( dinna check to see if that is there yet though so it might already be an option )

Both sound like good solutions to me! Regarding the left section, a few other programs I use have a button for the navigation section to act like a flyout of sorts - heck, even Windows Explorer lets you turn the folder pane on and off

Just updated to 2.00.288.....there's now an option to hide the banner Thanks Guys

Next time someone says Stardock doesn't listen...

OK, the banner's hidden, but the wasted space under the menubar is still there.  Sorry to sound like a grouse, but it's only a minor improvement. Hopefully more options are coming.   Couldn't the info presented there, when you go to the Object Desktop section, Games, and etc., be placed in the lower window?
