Two of the best skinners on the planet Treetog & Mike Bryant. There at the cutting edge of GUI design. Get on over to the GUI Olympics to see there skins. Antares (treetog) - Airlock (mike Bryant)

Antares definately. Hopefully some ports for other apps will follow.

Hum, no doubt that Antares is very nice, but I think that time needs to pass a bit before a skin or any piece of art can be considered "best of all times".

Having said that, I prefer Thundestorm to Antares among Treetog's GUIO submissions.

Antares

I dunno..

It IS an awesome skin...Very well thought out and very creative...animations added a lot to it as well..Definately worth a 10/10.

But, its not a skin that I could use every day, some of the colors dont quite agree with my eyes..(neon green) And the continuous animations are slightly distracting to me....

My fav in the contest so far is 'FM' by ^^Gabriel.
G-Pod was good too...

Yeah after a while the neon green is like woah but yeah what can you say its personal preference...to each his own haha yeah something like that....

Antares is excellent. I'm going to pull it to pieces to see how it's done (well, if you can't learn from the best skinner around...). I'm going to change the green to blue though...

the best WB ever ? i woud say it would have to be the very first WB created .. why ?
because it inspired others to make more.. and brought skinning to a new level

the best windowblinds skin ever? I don't believe that this skin exists.

I had 2 unforgetable punchs since I started my interest for skins, the first one was the skin that made me try Windowblinds (back in 1999), it was Capsula from Allan Bond (I still return to it from time to time) and the second one was in the day of the releasing of a suite called Winstep (2000), by Dangeruss.

Other then that, I would say that I have some FAVORITE skins that I allways return to them.

Lately, because of GUI Olympics, I find a new favorite wb skin every day. GO! GO!

Ah, I have Capsula - that is excellent. But there are so many good skins from that era, where have all those people gone?

I remember my first taste of those skins ( WB 0. something...) and was just amazed at how Windows could look. That was a voyage of discovery so many have missed. I wish I could capture that feeling again

I second that Renato - WinStep is my all time fav suite

Current existing WB though?!

Dunno really, I would say that each and every one is the best, in their own way.
Would be wrong to single out just one

I agree that any "best ever" question is impossble to answer unless someone is omniscient of course, but then you knew I was going to say that didn't you?

I change my vote to Antares too...it's a technical tour de force, but it's very usable too. It's the skin that has pushed what's possible the furthest to date, AFAIK and IMHO.

As for the question about the first WB skin, Frogboy would probably be best placed here to comment but I think a few by Frogboy were "bundled" or available for download when I first saw and tried WB back in '98 (I think it was).

....though, a lot of those very early ones were at least inspired by previous works on other systems (Kaleidescope on the Mac for one perhaps). At least 18 of the skins listed https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?searchtext=&sort=date&order=Ascending&library=1 look very similar to other skins I recall on previous systems or resemble other OS's....So I don't think that argument for the 1st being called "best" actually holds

BTW - I found a magazine cover disk just the other day with WB 0.something on it which I think was where I first heard of it and tried it....I wonder what would happen to XP if I tried installing that version now?

OK, so if the question is "What is your favorite current skin" then Antares could be a good contender... Good thing it's been submitted to the GUIO, isn't it?

As I said before, a skin, a song, a painting, a book, all need to passs the test of time before getting considered a "classic" of "best of all times".
My current favorite is the neon green Smile suite. Very different IMO and quite refreshing.

Personally I like Krpytonite the most it is one that you only get when you register with WC and get OD i think that is how you get it. Anyways it is really well donne with transparency and stuff. It is not minimalistic (which I need because of crappy resolutions on Laptops) but it is a very well done skin.

Cygnus are you Allen Bond just reregistered?
