Roll-up Icons vanished without a trace

Hi!

My system woke up in the Twilight Zone this morning! 90% of my icons vanished without a trace.  It was working perfectly last night.

This morning, with a single exception, all icons were in roll-ups.

Current setup:  Win 11 v 25H2 OS Build 26200.8655, Fences v6.46, Start 11 v2.72

I tried to restore the screens, I went back 5 days.  All the Icons were flat out gone.  It's like all of the fence containers were erased.

In all the years I've been using Fences, this is a first for me.

I'm open to any constructive ideas

TIA,

JoeG

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. First, try disable Fences and see if all the missing desktop icons appear on your desktop. To disable/enable fence. Just untick/tick this setting. If it still missing when Fences is off, the issue most probably not due to Fences. Report back.

Thanks for the reply, Basj!

I tried the disable option.  The WinBlows 11 gremlins obviously stole the icons.

Many thanks!

Perhaps it something to do OneDrive Desktop Sync issue or any Cloud storage services. When it was on, I believe OneDrive move your desktop actual icons into OneDrive 's desktop folder. And if it somehow get turn off and OneDrive did not move it back to the actual desktop folder. Those icons need to move back manually.

Thanks Basj!

I found all of the missing icons on the OneDrive.  Thanks to you, I've managed to rebuild my desktop back the way it was!

I do have one more question.  I have 2 Win 11 machines,  my main machine and a garage laser. and have Fences on my desktop, but not the garage machine.  I need the desktop setups to be unique to each system.  What I'm getting is the desktop icons going from the main machine to the garage machine.  Both use the same email account as the login.

I'm sure it's a setting issue.

TIA,

JoeG

Great, I’m glad to hear the missing icons issue has been resolved.

Regarding the layout problem on your two systems: from what I understand, both currently share the same layout, which isn’t what you want. Normally, Fences layouts do not sync between separate systems — each system should have its own unique layout.

If both systems are showing the same layout, the most likely cause is OneDrive Desktop sync. Please try turning off OneDrive Desktop sync, then make a change to the layout on one system. The change should not appear on the other system if syncing is disabled.

Let us know the results after testing. Thank you.
