Can Fences 6 cause Windows Taskbar Thumbnails stop showing up?

This started several days ago, around the time that I upgraded to Fences 6.

My Taskbar Thumbnail popups stopped working around the time I upgraded to Fences 6.  I'm using Grok to try and help me solve this issue.  But nothing works.  And so I started wondering if Fences 6 could have something to do with it.  It started several days ago, around the time I upgraded to Fences 6.

What I have noticed, in Start11 and Windows 11 Stock Taskbar, after an explorer.exe restart, if I hover the mouse over an open app's icon in the Taskbar, the thumbnail does flash for just 0.1 seconds.  Then it's gone.  Most of the time I just see the Taskbar flash and no thumbnail, but I think it's trying to show the thumbnail, and something is closing the thumbnail popup?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. From what I know, Fences do not change anything on your taskbar. Have you tried disabling Fences and see if the issue still show up? Refer screenshot below to enable/disable Fences.

Yes, I did that.  It didn't help.  But I was not sure Fences was not running because the window was still open.  I cannot even find Fences in the Task Manager.

Using Grok, I have tried about 50 different things.  One that worked temporarily was adding:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM, EnableAeroPeek, 1
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM, AlwaysHibernateThumbnails, 0   <---This was the only one I had to add.
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband, NumThumbnails, 10

to the registry.  But after a reboot, it stopped working again.  Checking the registry, and those settings were still correct.
sfc /scannow found no errors..

I have my Taskbar at the top of my 1st monitor, and on the bottom of the monitor below.  I see the same problem on the bottom taskbar.

Ending the service and unloading Start11 doesn't help.  This also happens to the stock start menu.  But I'm just not sure that Start11 or something is changing some hidden internal settings that are causing this..

To be sure Fences is not loaded on boot, you can disable these two setting on Windows Startup.
