Very Slow Dowload Speeds from Stardock Website

Can someone explain why the download speeds of anything from the Stardock website is consistently slow ? In fact downloads run at an injured snail’s pace. I can download from China through the firewall faster than I can from Stardock.

As I understand it, Stardock is based in the US? It can’t be a bandwidth issue sure so why such low speeds in 2025 ?

Sorry you ran into problems, Adam0310.

Since it's the weekend, I hope the weekend Support person will cruise through and see your post and act on it.

Sometimes the problem can be more local, so check all's as it should be at your end.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Support has answer this same question here in this thread: https://forums.stardock.com/530621/get;3943904.

Thanks - I checked the previous link you gave - it was about twelve months old so it seems nothing has been fixed or improved since that previous post. I have a fast (1 gbps) download speed so the Stardock download speed is very noticeable. It is what it is I guess but it sure seems very strange to seemingly be back at dial-up modem speeds :-). Even posting in these forums takes a noticeable wait time to go through.

The only thing I can tell you sort of echoes my friend pelaird...over the past twenty plus years, I've found the occasional wait to be truly worth it...both because of the folks here, the folks at Stardock and the art. Frankly? I couldn't do without them.

From what I understand — and I could be wrong here — it looks like there might be some speed caps in place to help protect Stardock’s servers. I suspect it’s a precaution after the network issues we all experienced a few months back. Just sharing what I’ve picked up, but take it with a grain of salt!

Came here from my post here as I've been having this issue for over a year, well before the "incident". I also encounter adding new posts taking several minutes to complete.

Hopefully someone can find the cause as it's quite frustrating.

I believe the slow forum issue should have been resolved this week.

Sorry Adam but after I got an email that there had been a further response on this thread I came back to check. The Stardock website speed is just as slow as ever so I don't know what you fixed but it certainly isn't fixed from a customer's perspective. The download speed I got to test (download a trial of stardock Start 11 software) was at best 75 kbps. That's kbps not Mbps. I am in Australia but your website is the only one on which I don't get very quick download speeds on my 1000 Mbps fibre connection.

Doing anything on your website takes a very long time by today's standards - my earlier joke about dial-up speeds isn't too far from the truth because I was around in the 90's and I remember it !! How about 25 seconds from putting my login details into the Stardock login page and hitting enter before I was into the account to reply to your email ? Changing pages - I can see the ticking timer at the top as I wait ten to fifteen seconds for the next page to be served whereas it is instant anywhere else.

I don't know how you are measuring your website speeds but maybe you need to ask someone outside the Stardock server room to confirm what they are getting !!! Dig deeper - I am sure you will find a piece of equipment that is on the way out or something is incorrectly set and slowing things down - either that or your hosting company is ripping you off !!  I'll post this now and pop the kettle on whilst I wait for it to update !

Cheers

Adam

So I guess we'll just ignore this inconvenient thread and leave it hanging ? I went to some trouble to explain the ongoing issue and capture a screenshot to directly respond the same day to Adam the Stardock Support Specialist's assertion that all was fixed now when it clearly wasn't. Maybe the 28 Oct post is still in the process of updating on the Stardock server ?

I'm also from Australia and I had to use a VPN to connect to a server outside Australia to literally download anything from the site. I've been trying for over a week before I gave up and used a VPN. Not impressed.

It's pretty awful speed for me from the UK.  I've connected via a vpn, from the US, and its... less awful, but still pretty shoddy for such a huge company.  I honestly wouldn't feel that way if it was a one off, but from this and other threads, it's clearly not.

Which file are you downloading?

The performance issue with the main downloads was addressed quite a while ago now.

I just tested with Windowblinds 11. Took 6 minutes.
