Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest and for any time you put into making Groupy 2 a better product.

Groupy 2.30 Changelog (Released 10/27/2025)

Date

10/27/2025

Version

UI: 2.3
File Version: 2.3.0.2

Changes

  • Has a small tweak to prevent a theoretical crash

  • This has tweaks to handle saved groups with apps like Discord, which change their path every single update

  • Also resolves an issue with pinning groups to the taskbar and start menu, and the taskbar will now show a prompt to ask (new strings in en.lng)

  • Resolves issue with undoing a globally saved colour for an app (depending on how colours are saved, you may need to once apply a blank colour to revert to app default and then again to reset that)

  • Resolves issue with tab colours not always being applied to existing tabs when opening from a saved group

  • Resolves issue with explorer tabs in auto group mode sometimes opening up invisibly, depending on focus and timing, especially on Windows 10

  • Newly saved groups will now remember which tab had focus at save time and attempt to restore this.

  • Tweak to grouping to make automatic window grouping not make it look like a group moves temporarily when grouping.

  • Added a prompt when excluding an app to exclude all with the filename or just that file.

  • Tweaked custom grouping rules to ignore blank rules, which users sometimes accidentally create when playing with the UI.

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

So far so good! The colors seem to be working properly now. I have a tab group with 5 Brave browser profiles. In version 2.2 it would not display the tab colors correctly, but now it does.

To test this quickly, I set all of the colors for my tabs then saved a new group. Then I cut the "SavedColour=" line from each entry group in the .groupy file of the new profile into the .groupy file of my original one.

For those of you wondering, I did this because I have a LOT of tabs open in each of my Brave profiles and I did not want to have to manually go in and deleted them all from the .groupy file. When you save a new group, Groupy 2 automatically saves every website in the .groupy file and reopens it, so if Brave is already saving open tabs, this causes Groupy to open the same url twice.

TLDR; Colors seem to be fixed!

Send my thanks to the devs for getting this figured out!

When I add Notepad as a tab, then click on it, it goes full screen and I can't get down in size with the other programs without shutting down Notepad. Bottom screenshot is how Groupy looks without Notepad added as a tab. Top screenshot is how Groupy looks as soon as I add it as a tab to my Main Group. My main group doesn't show, only Notepad.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know :

  1. You on Windows 10 or 11? Also need to know its full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.
  2. Groupy setting: General->Place tabs above or intergrate the tabs?
  3. Does the issue appear when adding Notepad to any Grouped application or specific applications.

Need to know any other details so I can try to reproduce your issue.

Thank you,
Basj,

Quick version number. I have "Place tabs above". My other tabs do not behave like this. This is my only use combining Groupy and Notepad.

Thank you. I have come to love Groupy. It resolves an issue I have had since I started using Windows. That is keeping open windows organized while opening and closing them. I am kinda OCD and like everything organized. Groupy solved that 100%. Groupy allows you to use your commonly used programs like they are all 1 program. It's amazing.

After installing Groupy 2.3, I tried it out on eM Client, opening the main mail window and the calendar window. Great, it puts them into one window with two tabs. Okay, go and do some tasks in a browser, then press Alt-Tab to return to eM Client. Ah - it's not showing in the Alt-Tab list. But it is in the taskbar. With Word, on the other hand, if I open several files, it displays the different tabs separately in the Alt-Tab list.

The behaviour above is if I open the Calendar window from within an existing eM Client window. If, on the other hand, I right-click on the taskbar icon and choose "Calendar", the two windows still get combined into a tabbed window, but they also appear separately in the Alt-Tab list.

Another oddity. I use the QTTabBar extension for explorer.exe because I prefer its tab handling and flexibility over the native product. Because of this, I have blocked explorer.exe in Groupy. One of QTTabBar's settings is to capture additional explorer windows as they are launched and add these to the current window as tabs. This does not always work with Groupy enabled. It seems to be OK if I launch Explorer directly, but not if I launch it from within another application. Also, the secondary window has a Groupy tab, whereas the first does not.

And another one, also with eM Client. Reminders are pop-ups, and these get treated by Groupy as windows and become tabbed. However, they seem to have a maximum height (though not width), so the entire window, with all tabs, gets restricted to that height. When the notification is dismissed, the window stays at that height.

If you do not use this extension, do you still see issues with Group?

It has so many other useful features, other than just tab handling, that I'd be very reluctant to drop it. To be honest, I'd rather lose Groupy than QTTabBar.

If I get a chance, I might remove it and see what happens, but I'm pretty busy, so that might not happen for a while, if at all.

Its just a simple process of elimination, Keith. Let us know your results and thanks for the report.

No, I turned off tabbing for Explorer. The native tabbing doesn't get a look in with QTTabBar enabled, and I put explorer.exe in the Blocked list

I use XYployer which is a tabbed Windows explorer replacement and I use Groupy to combine it, and Discord, Steam and it works flawlessly.
