Iminent crisis, difficulty of the second-last mission: Silgul the hunters

Hi I'm somewhat new to ashes. I've beaten most of the first campaign. For now, I am always playing on normal mode. I really struggled with Silgul for a while. The enemy forces were just to big and constant to defend against, and his base seemed impenetrable.

Then on another attempt, the allied AIs seemed to play better (other times they just got destroyed), and the enemy never made his own dreadnoughts, nor sent any noticeable air attacks. I reached his nexus and destroyed it with just 4 or 5 of my dreadnoughts. It was actually quite simple compared to my previous attempts.

Is it possible in some of the campaign missions like these that the allied plays better and enemy AI plays worse due to RNG even when the same difficulty level is chosen?

Hey, RNG is a factor in Ashes. The difficulty itself sets the bonuses and some logic preference, but the ai will adapt to what's happening in the game, and sometimes it can be better at it, and sometimes it can be worse at it. Without inspecting the game in detail, it won't be possible to tell reason for specific strength or weaknesses of ai - but your catch is absolutely correct and AI can perform differently at same difficulty level, with human player being the biggest factor in how AI responds to threats.
