Trillian - Pros and Cons?

I used to run ICQ and MSN messenger. I have been running Trillian for a few days now. What are the pros and cons of using Trillian vs using MSN messenger and ICQ?

i like being able to access all platforms from one client. being able to set one away message and so on, and talking to people of all platforms without worrying about it. i wasn't happy with regular trillian but i bought pro for the hell of it (20$ i otherwise would have spent on beer) and - i love it. its got the AV features built into it so you can connect to people on MSN or Yahoo's AV, and probobly even the new AIM AV. i can make and join AIM chatrooms and i started using IRC on trillian pro (much to the chagrin of other stardockers . terry, ive been talking to your MSN nick through it also and i dont notice the difference in sending files back and forth between the clients. in short.. its just really convieniant, and i love how its completely skinnable. mine looks and acts like iChat.

Pro: you only need one single program to keep contact with all your friends. Anoter Pro is that it's skinnable.

The main con I found is that it seems that sometimes file transfer doesn't seem to work right, for some reason, especially from people using MSN. Dunno why. MSN also has a few features that Trillian doesn't have, but I never use them anyway. On the other hand Trillian Pro can have features through its plugins that can be quite awsome and blow away any other messenger, such as news headlines, weather, email checker, etc. The link grabber can be usefull too.

KonaI started using Trillian when I was in Saudi. At that time, and in THAT place, it was the ONLY IM that the Saudis couldn't block. Folks with AOL and MSN couldn't even access their systems because of the frickin' Saudi censorship!! THAT still exists! File transfers problem belongs to MSN, NOT Trillian! Microsoft, in their inimitable moronic fashion keep putting blockers in order to "protect" their customers, thus the file xfer problems. IMHO, Trillian is a must have and with the plugins, I can see wx, world times, temps (local&world), email notifications (including those with secure logons) and do it all using much less cpu/system resources which increase quite a bit if I run ICQ and MSN msgr at the same time. The PRO version of Trillian isn't that expensive and it's truly the ALL-IN-ONE IM for me!

gaim? I guess thats a linux proggy?

Kona, yes, it started out as a Linux proggie. But now there is a Windows port available.
It's a good alternative to running all the different apps, it may even be par with the regular Trillian, but it certainly isn't better than Trillian Pro.  Trillian Pro is worth every penny.

gaim is for windows now, but for windows i would still suggest trillian. i have heard many good things about the pro too.

I use Trillian all the time...also have latest MSN Messenger (for transferring files) but rarely use that. Trillian is cleaner, less cluttered, I like it. Have been wondering about the features of Trillian Pro, might consider getting that.

At the prompting of Alexandrie last night, I tried Trillian one more time. In the past it had always refused to display any sort of contact list.  But this time it everything went perfectly. So far, I'm really liking it.

I like Trillian because...well I don't exactly know why I like it. I just like how I can easily skin it and stuff like that. And a note to Wincustomize: You should have a Trillian skin section. )
