Remove team dependencies from "Best Win"

I don't want to play on a team with an AI, but the only reason I play a map is to get a "Best Win".

Pretty straightforward:

Making any changes to the team settings on a map makes it so the "Best Win" won't be recorded.

I get that stacking the odds unfairly in your favor by setting the teams up to be say 4 vs 1 should certainly prohibit the "Best Win" from being recorded, but even on free for all?

Given that most of the maps are team maps it really limits the number of maps I actually want to play on.

Suggested solution: enable "best map" recording if the game settings are default OR on FFA.

Thank you for sharing this feedback and the suggestion, I know ive seen the "Best Win" triggers confuse a few people in the past as well so I'd be curious to get more opinions on this thread

Just found this thread when searching for a way to preserve Best Win in FFA games.

A way around this, might be to offer a "Disable Diplomacy" or "Disable Teams" switch for the existing FFA option, versus the complexity of allowing Best Win for various potential player team configurations. I exclusively play FFA with AI, and it's a real bummer when my latest difficulty achievement is ignored. I 100% support OPs request in having some way for it to be recorded, without allowing all of the AI to team up against me in the first 10 minutes of every FFA game. The "Set every AI to their own team" is kind of just a hack players use to avoid the existing AI diplomacy behavior, which isn't really fun, just predictable and exponentially increases the chosen difficulty of a game.

I will say that the Best Win mechanic is a simple yet effective way to add a long term goal to the game for those players that are goal oriented people, I could see myself replaying the same map dozens of times just to beat it at the highest difficulty I can play at.

Kind of did the same thing with C&C Generals, I played that game for years because I just wanted to beat every single map on the hardest difficulty, which takes a lot longer than just playing on every map.

In that it also adds a ton of replayability to the game for those of us who are goal oriented gamers because all we need is more maps (once you've fleshed out all you want to regarding races, balancing, content, etc).

Actually on that, if you wanted to expand the concept of Best Win you could add a mechanic to include races/factions, encouraging players to beat every map as each of faction of Tec, Advent, and Vasari.

I am all for removing the dependencies.  Whether I want to relax and play against some easier AIs or if I want to test myself against some of the unfair and up difficulties, a big map can take hours and hours to play through.  Not having the game make note of my victory can be a little disheartening.

I'd love to just be able to see a record of games that have been played on a specific map with some details about each as part of the record (faction, opponents, difficulty, game settings...).  The upcoming DLC for scenarios seems like it would fulfill the need for specific required conditions for different maps and the types of players that enjoy that type of challenge.

Hello,

I would also like to see some changes to "best win". Please allow no-teams. As far as playing with every race a "badge" could change (color, shape, whatever), but simply beating a map should count no matter a race. Don't force players to play races they don't like.
