I honestly agree. I don't have a Co-pilot AI computer and really, I see no reason to scrap what I have which more than fills my needs.

The security improvements, fine. Can't hurt.

Recall? I'm wary despite the assurances of the revamped app.

Studio effects? Meh. I don't use a webcam/mic and that's for security reasons.

Image generation? OK. I use Ps and DALL-E 3...mostly for walls for my own use. Paint? Why would I need it?

File explorer? I use Directory Opus. Better by miles.

Quick Settings? Probably useful. Phone link too. Energy management? My PC doesn't need it. Bitlocker encryption by default? OK more secure.

Am I installing it right away? Not on your life. I can wait a month or more to allow drivers to get updated and have a shakedown period before seeing my system getting whacked, thanks. I also choose to watch for problems with SD software though they'll probably be rarer than those with drivers.

Bump. Surely there are those who have made the jump to 24H2. I am seeing issues with Stardock software in the Forums.

Please let us know your experience with the upgrade process and what you think of 24H2.

Is 24h2 worth it? Depends on how you want to use your Windows.

The worst part of this upgrade is that it will create chaos to a lot of 3rd party modification tools as Microsoft clamps down on using Windows 10 parts. On the forum we are seeing a lot of issues right now because of this. Therefore, 24h2 is a step backwards when it comes to customization's and modifications.

For people willing to say good bye to windows 10 and windows 10 parts, 24h2 is in fact worth it. However, the changes for the better are very subtle and a lot of people might miss them entirely. There are a lot of small things like labels in the context menu, improved settings (still migrating the control panel to the settings menu decades later), built in compression, wifi 7, better laptop battery power options, ect.

I'm not planning to update until things settle down. From what I have read, the End of Service for 23H2 is November 2025. Hopefully MS gets 24H2 working smoothly by then!

A wise decision, I believe. Unless you're doing a lot with AI and planning to do more, absolutely no need to rush.

MS has said that if your computer doesn't satisfy their criteria for W11 compatibility, go out and buy a new one. Not a thought about the e-waste, and piles of perfectly good computers, nevermind affordability.

W10? One year then an expensive contract or more e-waste.. or 0Patch. Fifty million people...nevermind all those on 7, 8, 8.1 and XP!

 

 

I am still on 23H2 and will not install 24H2 until all this stuff is completely fixed! My main PC is Windows 10, I only use my Windows 11 computer to check the WB's I design on it, and that's all.

Microsoft certainly does want people to throw away perfectly good tech a lot sooner then needed. I don't meet the system requirements to run copilot plus and would have to upgrade to do so. Fortunately for me, the AI features aren't enough for me to want to buy a new computer. It is Microsoft's loss; they will have to wait until my computer is actually old before I try their AI features.

24h2 reminds me a little of Windows 8. It has a gimmick (the AI features) that isn't that great initially, but still some of the under the hood improvements makes it worth upgrading.

I bought a new computer. Came with Windows 11. Installed Windows 10. Windows 11 doesn't off enough new features for me to justify switching. When Windows 10 reaches end of line next year I hope Windows 12 is ready. Probably just switch to a Mac.  

It seems like every day, I read an article about issues with 24H2. I just don't think it's ready for prime time yet. I used to always be an early adopter of new Windows OS versions, but lately that seems like a bad idea. Why can't Microsoft get it right? I know there are so many different configurations of computers out there, and that contributes to the problem. It's almost impossible for them (MS) to test everything prior to launch of a new OS, or update for that matter. They have to release to the public to find all the issues. I'm just not ready to be a beta tester these days.

I'll be sticking to 23H2 for now until all these bugs get fixed.

I'm staying with Windows 10 (22H2 19045.5011 atm) and will continue to do so with the aid of 0patch as long as I can just because everything essential just works, looks good, feels good, fast & fun. If I have to buy a new computer, I guess I'll have no choice but to get into Windows 11, but I'll deal with that when time comes. I used to be like you and always wanted the latest and rarely the greatest back a few years and although error hunting can be fun, they're not to me something I like to spend too much time on anymore.

One more year of support from Microsoft until 10/2025. It's interesting that MS is dropping support for 23H2 in 11/2025.

It's more interesting as to why Microsoft even created Windows 11!   

I'm pretty sure that period will be extended simply because a very large part of the world don't have the economy to upgrade their machines. And there's always 0patch to keep things running safely. As a small reminder of what's possible: Jafo is still on Windows 7!   

There're obviously making  money for  the licences sold with new machines, and they are trying to expand their monopoly on Windows apps and more advertising to get even more of our money. It's all about making money and expanding the market share with businesses like Microsoft, Apple & lots of others.

You can refuse update only so long. Also, any security updates won't occur until you remove the hold on 24H2, thus you will be increasingly vulnerable.

Unfortunately, public companies have to continue to increase revenue to keep their investors (and the market as a whole) happy.

I pretty much beta test everything. It is never a big deal to me to just roll back updates that are broken and and I have done so several times. Luckily I have not had to with 24h2.

Being someone that beta tests a lot I can tell you from experience that the only issues that will for sure be resolved on launch are my own along with other beta testers that report issues. Sometimes they will be your issues as well but not always. Additionally, I am always beta testing Stardock software as well and no matter how thorough I am with looking for issues or bugs I am constantly surprised at the unforseen issues that arise after launch. This is because of the sample size of hardware that is available. Sometimes it just takes that larger sample size to figure out an issue.

I don't think you should be afraid to test because nothing gets fixed until it is found out anyways.

I'm glad your doing the testing, I'm getting too old to deal with the headaches.

I tried the latest version of Windows 11. Not for me. If I have to use a lot of third party apps to make 11 look like and work like 10 then what was the point of 11? It seems everything is backwards. Especially the awful start menu. I would like to see my app list, not pinned apps and documents. Fonts are off a bit. Colors are off a bit. I'll just stick to 10 until I get a new Mac later this year. 

Meanwhile back at the ranch...Windows 7 is still going strong.......

Don't have an opinion, one way or the other, still use my Windows pc once in a while, majority of the time I'm using macOS....I'm going to the Dark Side!!!
