Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

  1. Windows full version and OS Build number.
  2. Show taskbar buttons on: "All Taskbars" the issue resolve, yes? Which setting that causing the issue?

I updated to 1.55 and my widgets button is now gone.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you on Windows 11, recently Windows 11 updates and moved the Widget to the right of the taskbar. Since that, if you have set the Start button to center align on enhance Start11 taskbar, it will make the Widget gone. If you wish to have the Widget still appear, you will need to use left start button or disable enhance Start11 taskbar.

Thank you,

Basj,

Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2 (0S Build 22631.4112)
Microsoft Surface Pro 7 RAM 8GB SSD 256GB SDXC 512GB

Only after Windows update a week ago, option:
Configure Start11 > Taskbar > Taskbar position > Align Top
Problem: Any taskbar button > mouse right click > nothing happen

Restart Explorer, restart Windows... same result

Any solution other than moving Taskbar to bottom (Align Bottom)?

Hello,

I customize my menu (Start11 v1.55) quite extensively. Is it going to work right away if I upgrade to Start11 v2?
BTW my current menu looks like this...

If you own a subscription to Object Desktop, you already have Start11v2. If not, you can upgrade using the small blue Upgrade on the purchase page.

Here are some FAQ for Start11v2 Upgrades: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1600028701/Start11+v2.0+Upgrade+FAQ

My recommendation would be to uninstall Start11v1 first, just make sure not to check the "Remove Settings" box!

Important! Restart your computer before installing Start11v2, and then restart after the installation is finished.

NOTE: If you want to back up your Start11v1 settings before uninstalling, you can do so by Exporting from the Registry.

Open the Registry Editor, and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8. Right-click on Start8 and select Export from the menu.

Good Luck!

I just upgraded v1 to v2. It works okay (knock on wood... 🙂).

Thanks for the directions.

After upgrading to v1.55, I have/had two issues:

  1. After a reboot, it takes a long time (minutes) before the task bar reacts to mouse or keyboard. This didn't happen with v1.50. This is still a problem that I'm having. (The task bar is the main reason why I'm using Start11.)
  2. The Windows "news and interests" widget board has an option that enables "open on hover". After the upgrade, it would open on hover even though the option was disabled from before (and remained disabled). It seems this is resolved now; after I enabled and re-disabled the option, it doesn't open on hover anymore.

I am looking for ways to go back to v1.50, which worked much better for me than v1.55. Apparently knowledgeable people on this forum said that the only way to go back is for me to create my own collection of previous installers. Since I always used the Start11 built-in updater, I don't have that collection. Was it a mistake to use the built-in updater?

Thanks for any help.

Can you reproduce the issue if you install the trial for Start11 v2?

Edit: After further testing, it appears Start11v1 (1.55) doesn't like the updated Widget. Turning off the Widget makes it work like usual.

But if you wish to keep using the Widget, temporarily disable it, go into Start11's taskbar page, make the changes you want, set taskbar enhancement to off and then re-enable Widget. Some of Start11's configuration are still on (mostly colors and transparency do work, but not features such as Start11's ungroupping of taskbar icons. Windows 11 own version will take over)

I updated to the latest version (from unknown version to 1.55, I updated sometimes early summer the last time) on saturday to get the Widget back, since Microsoft changed things again. Just installing the update did not make it return, but turning off and on the "Let Start11 enhance the Taskbar" feature, as well as restarting Explorer made it work.

This worked for half a day, but when I stood up this morning (no reboot inbetween), the configure button as well as most things on the right side of the taskbar (widget and system tray) acted strangely. I've rebooted once, but that didn't help.

It takes about 5-10 seconds for the hidden icon box to appear (if it appears).

Clicking on "Configure Start11" makes the menu stick and nothing happens for about 30 seconds or a program "resets" the taskbar, making me having to click Configure Start11 again.

When either of these happen, the open/stickied part of the taskbar doesn't work either. As long as I don't try clicking on the system tray or configure, I have no problems clicking on the program icons/names.

The Start part seems to work regardless of if the taskbar is locked up or not.

This issues appear to disappear when I turn off the Enhance Taskbar feature of Start11, which is one of the main/only reason I still use Start11

No, issue is gone. Will you fix 1.55 or am I forced to upgrade to v2.x ?

The 'force' is Microsoft, aspliid.  While we have made efforts to ensure their changes do not totally break Star11 v1, Start11 v2 is the currently actively developed version and should be used to keep pace.

Is this program going to work with 24h2 ?  I don't want to pay for the upgrade I am on 1.55

And when I bought the program I was told I would be entitled to upgrades instead you try to force me to buy your new version

Didn't like that so I've stuck with what I bought. If 24h2 breaks my program are you going to do anything about it?

Directly from the EULA:

"...all future generations of the Software and all whole number versions of the Software (i.e., version 5.0, version 6.0, etc.) developed and published from time to time in the future are not deemed to be Updates, and are not considered licensed Software to you, and, therefore, you will be required to purchase a new license or license subscription as a condition of upgrading the Software to any such new generation or version."

That being said, I believe Stardock has made every effort to keep Start11v1 working with with all the Windows 11 updates. Please consider supporting Stardock's future development by purchasing Start11v2. The Upgrade price is only about $4.00US.
