Steam Account Issues

Hello, I bought the Premium sins of a solar empire 2 and have been unable to play because of "Epic Game Ownership is unknown. You must start the game when connected to Epic at least once before playing offline. If you believe that you have received this message in error, please view our troubleshooting guide. If the problem persists, please visit our support forums." I have tried to connect my epic account to steam but nothing has worked. Any advice?

I have the same issue and have had no luck finding a solution. I purchased through Steam and it was never connected to Epic Games in any way.

I had this error.  I purchased and installed through the Steam client.  The install completed without incident.

When starting the game, a pop up window appeared.  It threw eos_online_service_provider(813) error.

I was able to resolve it.

Here is what I observed and what I did.  I don't know if this addressed the issue or that I was just lucky.

I had been running my Proton VPN client during the Steam session.  I had connected and disconnected VPN links.

I shut down the Proton VPN client application.  I then rebooted my fully patched Windows 11 system.

I started the Steam client after the reboot WITHOUT starting the Proton VPN client.  The game then launched successfully.  It has run successfully since then.  I have not tried to run the game while having an active VPN connection.  I do run the game concurrently with a running Proton VPN client in the idle disconnected state.

My theory was that the network changes caused by connecting and disconnecting a VPN link caused problems with either the Steam client or the game itself.  No idea if this is actually the case.

The exe supports both steam and epic, it just happens to check epic last. The problem is the steam api initialization has failed for some reason. Often due to steam client being old (check for updates). Or the steam client is not even running. In the next patch the log file will have a better description on why steam api initialization failed.
