Desktop GPT 0.75 Feedback Thread

With the DesktopGPT 0.75 release today, we are creating this thread so that users can report any observed issues.

Obtaining Object Desktop Insider Builds

Object Desktop Manager

Object Desktop members can get beta and Insider builds from within Object Desktop Manager with 'Enable Object Desktop Insider builds' enabled:

Stardock Download Page

Or via their download page in the ‘Object Desktop Insider’ section

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

  • Log files for DesktopGPT

For log files, please go here:

    C:\Users\[EnterYourWindowsAccountHere]\AppData\Local\Stardock\DesktopGPT

You are going to want to insert your Windows account name (no brackets) in that path - you can then paste it into Windows Explorer and it should go directly there:

As shown, we want the: DesktopGPT_Log.txt file.  You can upload it to a cloud drive service of your choice (OneDrive, GoogleDrive, PasteBin, etc) and post a shared link to it in a reply post.  Please do not post the entire raw text in a reply.

Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making DesktopGPT a better product.

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

I couldn't find this question asked anywhere, so I thought I'd ask here. Is there any future plan to allow people to use their paid ChatGPT accounts that we already have with OpenAI vs. having to buy Stardock credits? That would be a blocker for me.

This is a good question and something we have considered. Right now, it's not on the immediate 1.0 release plan, doesnt mean we can't add it for a 1.5 or 2.0 release.

Part of the reason we went the token route is 1) the way OpenAI has the API setup 2) We didnt want to require Object Desktop customers to need to create another account to use the tool.

But this is good feedback..will see what we can do.

Thanks for your fast response. I get it. It's just I already pay and need it for other things, so it would be a nice post 1.0 add-on and really add value to OD. Also, any chance you are working on history (seeing list of prompts you have submitted) vs. just the last one?

Thanks for all the team does to delivery one of the finest collections of Windows software that has ever come out.

Thanks for pointing me to this thread, Jan.  I also vote for the ability to use our existing ChatGPT subscriptions in leu of tokens.

Of course I couldn't resist doing a price comparison :)

For my own purposes, the token system does seem a bit less expensive (for this month at least).  Using GPT 4 (non turbo) I asked DesktopGPT, "What is the meaning of life?"  It gave me a nice paragraph.  That cost 6k tokens.  Then I asked it to draw me a picture.  It wasn't able to, but described what the picture might have looked like.  That was about 2500 tokens.  It looks like the price of tokens works out to about 10k per USD.   So 6k for the philosophy question is approximately 0.6 USD.

On the ChatGPT site, I counted all of my prompts for the last 30 days.  It was 30 for me, but that varies GREATLY month-to-month.  Anyway, I think it's 21 USD per month.  So that was about 0.7 USD per question for the last 30 days.

10 cents more per question.

We have a support doc that outlines info about tokens.

Included in that document is that we may (and likely will) adjust how tokens are counted and the amount that we hand out. We provided everyone with 75,000 to get started but we need to see how this impact our own API usage/costs. We are providing the app for free and the tokens as well - there is a balance in there somewhere that makes sense from tokens as part of Object Desktop

(a bit of transparency about how we are approaching this as we continue to build out DGPT).

Interesting stats and comparison. I use it for a work a lot and for my $20 with OpenAI I do about 300+ prompts a month. I like the idea of DesktopGPT, but I'll stick with OpenAI direct for now. I'm excited to see the future of it, though!
