Sort by Drag and Drop doesn't work

I would like to add new game shortcuts at the end. It works neither automatically nor manually via drag and drop.
I cannot move the shortcut in the screenshot to the end.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Need to know few things.

  1. You on Windows 10 or 11? Need its full version number. Please use Winver.exe
  2. Fences version installed.
  3. What is your sort setting?

For reference refer my short video below.

Thanks

I am using Windows 10 Pro 22H2 and Fences 5.04. No sorting rules. In the game fences are 70 shortcuts. It still seems to work up to 60 objects. From then on fences causes problems.

I set my desktop with a 78 icons Fences. But, I still can not reproduce your issue on my system. But, I am on Fences V5.51 Beta.

Refer screenshot below. I manage to manually put those Browsers shortcut without issue.

Would like to suggest for you to update to version 5.51. Should be available in your Account product download page.

Thank you,

I have the same problem with version 5.51. From the 61st link, I cannot set a new link to the last position. I have 6 links in a row.

I have now created a new fence and moved the shortcuts here. The problem starts with 6x9 rows (63 shortcuts).

Please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.

Beta version 5.51 also has a new problem. After creating a test Fences and then loading a backup, I get the following error message:

Quite honestly. I would be afraid of losing my snapshots. It was very time-consuming to set up and configure all my Fences.

You can backup your layout snapshot using this guide: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1331494954/How+do+I+back+up+Fences+snapshots%3F

I'll have a look at it later. Have you tried to recreate my problem with 6x9 rows?

I tested with 6x9 but no issue on my system to move to the end.

I have completely uninstalled fences and used the batch file "Purge_Fences.bat". Then I restarted the PC and installed the new version 5.51. Nothing helped. All the effort was in vain.

"Clean Boot" does not bring any change. Depending on the width of the fences and a certain number of links, the system may go wrong.

Thanks for the video, just curious, if you click and drag the "Neighbours back from hell" icon and move somewhere else. Does that work?

Hi Thomas,

I've reproduced the issue and logged it internally for us to look into.

Internal Ref: ODNT-8071

One thing I've noted that might be useful for you, is that it didn't seem to occur when the Fence was arranged in rows longer than 6 shortcuts.  Adjusting/resizing seems to work.

Thank you much for the feedback,

I tried that too. At first it looked like it would help. But then this problem also occurred with wider rows.

Yes, the "Neighbors back from hell" icon can be moved. It behaves in the same way as the other icons. Moving it works in a slightly higher section of the window, around the 8th row. Below that it does not.

The proof in another Google Drive video.

Thank you very much, I hope the problem can be fixed.

Hello @SD_McGuinness, now I'm a bit disappointed. I was hoping for a new version that would finally fix the error. And then the same error also exists in Fences Ver. 5.53. The shortcuts still cannot be sorted by hand using drag and drop.

Sorry to hear that, thomas-k.  I've gone ahead and noted in the logged issue that you're still experiencing this in 5.53.

One of the main functions of Fences is to organize the many shortcuts on the desktop. Manual sorting of shortcuts still does not work with the new version 5.54. It can't be that difficult to finally fix the problem.

The annual subscription has been running for six months and one of the main features still doesn't work.

Can't troubleshooting be prioritized?
