Sensor range and sectors

I made a dreadnaught with 36 titanic sensors it says my sensor range is now 437 on that ship. Does anyone know if sensor range works outside your sector?

Like can I see into the other sectors from my current sector with this ship that has 437 sensor range?

Am I the only crazy player making these recon ships with big sensor range? I make these big recon ships so I can see everything happening in my sector.

I'm sure you're not the only one. I used to do that in GC3, but in GC4 so far I haven't really played with designing my own ships yet.
