Taskbar clock not updating

Star11

I purchased Star11 a year ago and it has worked fine up until recently.  I'm on version 1.47.  The time and date on the taskbar clock do not update.  If I opt to restart explorer it works for a while, but eventually it freezes.  The rest of the taskbar functions fine, just the time/date area.  Any ideas?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know, what is your Windows full version numbers. Use Winver.exe for it. Also please refer here for reporting issues : https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1387003915/Contacting+Stardock+About+Start+Product+Issues

Thank you.

Thanks very much for the response and for the link.  The app itself doesn't give much direction for finding help.

I'm on Windows 11, version 22H2 (OS Build 22621-2428)

I was hoping that page showed you that we need more details on your issue. Does the issue happen all the time, or, after sometimes or after playing a game etc. More details please. Do you have Taskbar enhance turn on or off. Taskbar size small, medium, large. Taskbar autohide turn on or off, Taskbar on top or bottom of the screen. More details please. Do you have any other 3rd party application installed that might interfere with Start11 such as ExplorerPatcher, StartAllBack etc?

Thank you,

I have no other 3rd party applications installed that affect Windows performance or appearance, definitely nothing like ExplorerPatcher or StartAllBack. The problem usually happens after unlocking Windows or after I close out of a game (World of Warcraft, Ghostwire Tokyo).  If I use the "restart Explorer" button in Start11, it corrects the problem until I do those things again.

I have Start11 configured as follows:  Win10 style, taskbar enhancement on, never combine buttons, do not show seconds on clock, 100% solid (no transparency), left-aligned start button with replaced icon.

There are a ton of customization in Start11 but I believe most of what I have is default.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble.

Out of curiosity, if you install the trial for Start11 v2, reboot, do you still see the issue?

Thanks for your response, Sean. I installed v2 and tested the laptop by putting it to sleep/waking it, then played a game for a bit. The problem appears resolved, HOWEVER, the v2 installation rejects my license key… so this is not much for a solution. Are there further steps I need to take for debugging or I am stuck purchasing a v2 license to resolve a problem in 1.47?

I saw this same issue just now and have never seen it before updating to the start11 v2. It was off by about 30 minutes and then I went to windows settings to see what it said there and it was correct. When I looked at the taskbar again, it had updated to the right time.

I'm on windows 11 pro, Version 22H2 (0S Build 22621.2506)

I'm using modern style with icons, taskbar buttons always combined, both blur the wallpaper under the taskbar and use automatic color for the taskbar turned on, seconds off, left aligned, medium size for task bar...

There are many reasons to consider updating to Star11 v2 and you can do so at a substantial discount for owning the prior version:

Another user is experiencing the same issue after upgrading to v2:

I saw this same issue just now and have never seen it before updating to the start11 v2. …

If another user is experiencing the same issue in v2, I am concerned the underlying problem might still exist.  Is there any way to debug the root cause?  I'm quite willing to provide further information about my system, installations, and configuration.  I do enjoy the Start11 product, it would be very disappointing to lose it over a bug.  Please advise.

I'm having the same issue with start11 v2, I'm on beta 3, Windows ver 22H2, build 22621.2506   Clock stops, and right clicking on the start button does not work, left click works.   Also, the taskbar icons are not drawing correctly, see Firefox Icon below:

This thread supports the reason I said in this Post that our feedback falls on deaf ears. There are a lot of users who feel their feedback goes unheard. This is evident in this post and elsewhere on the forum if you have surfed much of it. It's worth saying as well that the website still claims to provide personalized support through a ticket creation system when purchasing Object Desktop. We've had that discussion already on the forum and that claim is simply not true. Updating the website to show the current support system and give more clarity to new users would be helpful. Doing so would ensure that new users know exactly what to expect for support ahead of time. After finding out that personalized support was not being honored despite being a major selling point (for me at least) on the website, my relationship with Stardock has been damaged. I would imagine others feel the same way whether they mention it or not.

However, I love the software and think Stardock is an awesome company. I just think support needs to rise to the level of the software. So anything bad I have to say is so far outweighed by the good I think that it doesn't matter much.

The problem with this assessment is the evidence to the contrary is literally all around you, carfar02.  Just because something you want to see addressed immediately is not, does not subtract from the countless points of engagement we have with our clients every single day.

I could not be more pleased with the collaborative relationship we have with our clients and I will continue to foster it for as long as I am here.

That said, we appreciate your passion, support, and feedback, carfar02.

I think this issue may be fixed with the recent beta, 2.05.  I installed the beta yesterday, and I haven't had any of the previously report problems: clock not updating, issues with taskbar icons, etc.

The issue has indeed been resolved.  The earlier 2.x beta had a resource leak causing this to happen over time.

A similar leak was in 1.x and I believe the plan is to put the fix in an update for that once the dust has settled on the 2.0 release.

Thanks for the response, Neil.  Unfortunately, the problem is NOT resolved with v2.  I ran an Start11 update yesterday and it says I am up to date, however, the clock is once again frozen.

Is there anything that can be done to correct this?  Is there any further information or technical data I could provide that would help debug the issue?  I would very much like to continue using Start11, but I cannot if this issue persists.

I didn't have any issues on 2.0, then I saw your post so I figured I try Beta 2.02.  I've been using it for a few hours and haven't had the clock freeze or other reported issue.

Well, my clock just started freezing again and the issue with the task bar icons is back.  I've gone back to 2.0 for now.

@Twenty_Ton_Squirrel, have you tried 2.03 beta?  I just downloaded and installed it.  No issues right now, but it took over a day before 2.02 started freezing.

First of all, thank you Twenty Ton for pointing out that I can click on the restart explorer button.  I also have this same problem and have had it in my Start 11 for the past 5-ish months.  Knowing I can at least click restart helps a lot compared to having to restart the entire OS.

Windows Version: Windows 11 22H2 22621.3155

Start 11 facts:

  • Version 1.5
  • Let Start 11 enhance the taskbar enabled
  • Taskbar buttons should be combined nver
  • Show seconds on taskbar off
  • No custom textures
  • No custom start button images
  • Win+X enabled
  • Tarkbar size = medium
  • Primary Monitor: Align Bottom
  • Secondary monitors: Align bottom
  • STart Menu windows 11 Style
  • Uste start11 start menu enabled

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, need to be sure, are you having same issue with the OP? If yes, try this, uninstall Start11v1.5, reboot immediately after uninstall finished, redownload latest version from your account page. Install it and reboot again immediately after installation finished. Retest it and report back.

Thank you.

basj, I tried what you said, the clock still freezes.  I completely uninstalled start11 and haven't had the problem since the uninstall so definitely the issue is with start11.

Just as Mallanon and jtruchon have pointed out, the issue of the taskbar freezing still persists even in the latest releases.  I experience it often when I wake the laptop from hibernation, especially if I was gaming before the hibernation was set.

This "feels" like a memory leak of some kind.  All my software, firmware, and drivers are up-to-date.  I'm happy to provide further specs or details if it will help.

I enjoy your software and would very much like to continue using it.  If this issue is resolved, I'll definitely be buying the v2.  Your continued assistance is appreciated.
