Map Troubleshooting

I think that, for troubleshooting purposes, there should be function that creates a non-playable map that is fully visible to players in order to see what their choices COULD look like.  It would save the frustration of investing time in a game, only to find in later turns that the map itself just simply isn't competitive.

Naturally, eXplore is the first of the 4 Xs.  But, it can also be the greatest inhibitor to troubleshooting map creation issues.  Something like this would help the community identify bugs in map creation.

I'd love to see the following 2 separate map creation options:

1.  A single sector, rectangular shaped map of various sizes, in addition to the current circular map options.

2. A map with sectors of only 1 star system. So you have as many sectors as you have stars. And a map creation option of defining the number of stars. (I have been rereading the 'Starfire' novels :).

Have asked for them to offer Steve Jackson games to computerize "Starfire".

As is the map page is too small for a proper "Starfire map.

Great Idea though.

A Starfire-LIKE map is exactly what I would hope to have eventually.  Possibly even a capstone technology that allows artificial jump points when two ships with the right module are linked?  (But, I digress...........)

I think the circular vs rectangular map is more about aesthetics.  While circular/spiral/oval would be more realistic, rectangular would allow more usable space for sectors.  As the Starfire novels address in the Arduan books, the shape of the actual galaxy is basically meaningless when travel is defined by the warp points.

I would still rather see the sectors themselves circular though.
