I have a food-related issue as a cybernetic race ...

I picked the cybernetic synthetic trait in a custom race thinking I wouldn't have to worry about food. Yet I have starvation issues but unable to build any food improvements or sectors.

I literally have to leave food-slots unbuilt on a planet to generate food and build planetary upgrades to increase food production.

Now I got some questions ...

What is it that requires food? I've looked around and can't find any indication of what it is that requires food. Is it all the citizens? Did I mess up picking a food-requiring people for my cybernetic synthetic race and it's causing issues? If food is still supposed to be an issue, what's the point of the cybernetic trait?

Anyone able to share some light on this?

Could you post a screenshot of your race (the one, which is before you start a new game), so that we can look at their traits and stuff?

If you picked Yor as your species, its possible to acquire non Yor citizens through planet invasion. They will demand food. If you can't provide, they will be unhappy. If you can't build farming districts, you might not be able to fix this.

I also found it possible to pick the synthetic trait and yet pick non Yor species as your species. For instance, you pick synthetic and use Mimot as your species. You will not be able to build any food districts, so its probable that your Mimot citizens will be very miserable over food shortages.

Yeah, I think that's where I messed up. I picked a non-synthetic race for my synthetic civilisation. So my own fault for digging my own hole then ... thanks for the answers :)

Some better population management tools would be nice. The current needs (I can think of at the moment) include the ability for synthetic populations to make food (since they often capture worlds full of hungry citizens), some way to get rid of Festron (even if their tendency to murder other species doesn't do much since they replace them), and some way to get population growth on planets that don't have citizens or is has only citizens that don't breed.
