When keep the tabs for Notepad & Explorer and excluding them as apps from Groupy the Notepad app will no longer open files in tabs and seems to open new windows.  This is a deal breaker unless there is a setting I am missing but have to remove this as I use notepad with multiple tabs daily.

Yea I’ve also noticed that mousing over the titlebar of an ungrouped window with no auto groups or grouping settings saved seems to be then manifesting one above.  No idea if this is expected behavior enabled by default and a setting I need to disable or what (at work so only had a minute to play with it this AM).

don’t recall that being a thing with groupy 1, but haven’t used it since win10

happened with gpedit.msc fwiw

Thats a new feature of Groupy 2.

You can disable that from the general page in Groupy settings "Show a Groupy bar when the mouse moves over the top of a title bar for windows not in a Group"

Here is a link that covers all settings in the Groupy 2 UI:

Quoting Neil Banfield,

Quoting c242,

There are some slight problems with snap enabled, the tabs open to the top in a single window but are not visible becuase they are off-screen. I think, the active window should shrink  height by the amount of the tabs, if possible, as only moving will move it underneath the taskbar.

Are you using Windows snap or powertoys and which version of Windows exactly?

Also is this the bar to show when not in a group or is it in a group already?

This is ungrouped and with Fancy Zones of Powertoys used. Switched it off and using Windows Snap right now, which works.

Windows is as always the newest Insider build (I know about the support limitations). But I will also test it on a regular Windows 11 build.

I am very fond of the fact how flawless this build works regarding it is beta.

This should be addressed in the next beta, thanks for reporting.

Hi Basj,

I dont believe we understand one another.  All I want to hide/remove/omit is this bit.

This should be an option in the next beta, thanks for requesting it.

If you minimize again and then hover over the app on the task bar, hovering over one of the thumbnails causes the tab bar to be painted without the window. Once the thumbnail is clicked, the window then opens.

Here is a short video of what I was describing. The first few seconds of this video are black and the quality isn't very good, but I think it will help you understand what I am experiencing.

I am using PowerToys Fancy Zones and maybe that has something to do with it.

Fancy zones don't behave well with Groupy 2. Here, too.

Update: As I read above, this will be addressed in the next build.

I tried a clean boot with only Microsoft services and Groupy running. Same issue.

When I first installed Groupy 2, I installed it over Groupy 1, and then I read where you said to uninstall Groupy 1 before installing Groupy 2. I uninstalled everything and installed Groupy 2 again. Strange, but it behaved normally when installed over Groupy 1.

Is there a purge bat for Groupy 2?

There is not but the reg keys are the same so it 'should' work.

I am a little confused by this:

Strange, but it behaved normally when installed over Groupy 1.

Meaning, it was not doing the paint issue you reported here, but did get funky after you did the uninstall of G1 \ install of G2?

Windows Version: 10 - 22H2 19045.2846

Not sure what exactly happened, all of a sudden, the groupy interface disappeared from all of my windows.  I could not interact with tabs.  I could not view the window of any application that was previously grouped.

Attempted:

  1. Right-clicking on an application, using "Move", "Restore",'Maximize", none of them returned the window to being visible
    1. When I used "Move", the cursor went to where Groupy2 window use to be.
  2. Toggled Groupy2 settings to try to get the tabs to display again
  3. Restarted Groupy2 application and services, did not restore the interface

I had to restart the computer to get it working again.

It would be nice to have a button to elegantly shutdown Groupy2, to restore the prior window state, in case this happens in the future; could be removed after beta or left in.  Just having a "Shutdown" button on groupy would be very helpful, so I don't have to restart my computer.

-------------------

Previously reported issue with Groupy 1 with regards to not working well with Java applications.  Groupy 2 appears to have fixed the behavior that I was experiencing.

While that is bad, if you see it again, see if task manager reads anything funky:

Dont ask me to define 'funky' 😉

We would also like to know if its readily reproducible and with what apps if that is contingent.

Thanks for the feedback, tomstock.

When Groupy 2 was installed over Groupy 1, the Always Visible worked as expected and the taskbar thumbnails worked as expected. Strange right! There were a few quirks in other areas though.

I just uninstalled Groupy 2 and deleted all the folders in App Data and Program Data folders. Restarted, and then reinstalled Groupy 2. The same issues still exist. Single windows still don't show a tab, and the taskbar thumbnails are still wonky.

Windows 11 - 22H2 22621.1702 / Groupy 2

I have created and have been using Microsoft Edge apps for Gmail, Facebook, and Windy.

Loved the idea of being able to combine them, and other programs, into a group and launch them together through the single group icon.

When I combine the Edge apps into a Groupy 2 group, the icon that is generated for the group correctly reflects the websites the apps refer to.  I have added the group to my Start Menu.  When I launch the group - as in after a restart - what I get is a Groupy set of Microsoft Edge instances all set to a "New Page".  So it would seem that Groupy 2 does not know how to launch an Edge "app", but instead treats them as an instance of the Edge browser set to a new page.

Windows 11 - 22H2 22621.1702 / Groupy 2

Only 3 of 5 tabs in a Groupy 2 group are displaying preview thumbnails when the group is hovered on the taskbar.  Shouldn't they all show a thumbnail?

[ed] Additional information:

I now have a situation where Groupy is showing the correct thumbnails on hover for all members of the group, but now it also has an additional member that isn't actually there.  It's an Outlook email composition window for a message that was sent many hours ago which Outlook closed when I sent the message.

I spoke too soon.  The issue with Java applications remains, and it doesn't capture on screen capture software, so I had to take a video of it with my phone:

Video

I have three applications grouped, Automic UC4 (Java), RoyalTS, and DBeaver (Java).  I switch from Automic to RoyalTS and their is no issue. At 00:08, I switch back to Automic, and the application overflows to the second screen.  At about 00:12, I switch to DBeaver, and it overflows again.

I think I am getting what you are saying, Reg, and was able to reproduce it:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2023-05-11_13-06-57.mp4

I also noticed a few other things, namely, that when app'd browser instances are run (from a pin say), they seem to be auto-grouping when they should not:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2023-05-11_13-21-44.mp4

I'll bug them.

I’m trying to activate Groupy2, but upon installation I’m presenting with a popup that tells me Groupy2 isn’t activated and, “Would you like to uninstall this product?” NO! I want to activate it! If I click Yes, Groupy2 is uninstalled, if I click No, then the app closes. Can I activate Groupy2 some other way than via the GUI?

A new forum post has been created for this issue here.

so with regard to this setting

it implies that some windows will have the + regardless.   shouldnt/wouldnt explorer be one of those windows?  best I can tell,  the minute you install groupy, explorer loses its + and as such you have to enable this setting to add new tabs.

the caveat being now everything shows as being able to add new tabs, including windows that in fact cannot.

I asked for a possible 'cant do that' on-+-hover if indeed we could tell that an app could not have multiple instances.  It is apparently not knowable.

so its an all or nothing basically?  still the lesser evil i think.

Im just trying to keep things looking as close to and as functioning as close to windows would barebones (especially explorer as thats what i tab the most of) while still having groupy features for grouping up other things when the need arises.

basically a have your cake and eat it too thing i suppose.   still better than using middle mouse or whatever its set to by default as i imagine trying that on a non tabbable window would produce the same result aka do nada :P  Just without the + staring you in the face implying you can.   that being at the expense of not having the plus where it would normally be.   Weird part is the  + is still there on terminal whether groupy is on or off, it only purges it from explorer for reasons that evidently go above my paygrade :P
