Fences 4 cannot lock/unlock fences

I am running fences 4 latest version. I cannot lock or unlock fences variously.I have done three purge/reinstall but the problems persist...

I cannot either lock or unlock fences. The problem changes with a fresh install but it is very annoying to say the least as it is easy to accidentality drag a fence etc. It's clearly a fences problem. I'm running latest Windows 11 and have done fresh installs all with no change.

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system

  1. Windows 11 full version number. Use Winver.exe to get those.
  2. Fences 4 full version number.
  3. You can not lock/unlock because you can not get to the lock/unlock context menu or if you lock it, it unlock itself. More details please.

Windows version is 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1413)

Fences version 4.10

So here we go... Fences will install fine and seem to be running OK. However if I attempt to lock the fences, the option is there but does not work. The same applies if the fences are locked, I cannot unlock them.

In addition if I right click the desktop or a fence I can see the view/configure fences but it will not open the configuration screen.  The only way I can configure fences is by clicking on a program shortcut 'Fences.exe" /FromDesktop'

Yesterday I did a purge of fences and a refresh of windows but the problems continue.

Prior to version 4 fences was stable but now it's a nightmare being lock in or out of configuration and not being able to lock fences itself to prevent accidental fence movement.

Try uninstall Fences 4. Reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Download and install this version: https://forums.stardock.com/517370/get;3881371 (Reply#2). Reboot again after the installation completed. Retest it and report back.

Tried as suggested but still have no control over the lock function or configuration.

Did you changed the default Windows 11 right click context menu to Windows 10 style context menu?

Hi yet again....

I'm running a fresh windows 11 install using the plain windows 11 taskbar and right click context menu. Nothing has been changed. Nothing is working correctly in fences!

When you said that. How did you get it locked? When you can not it in the first place? Please, clarify this point.

Also, Please try cleanboot: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#cleanboot. Try that and report back.

As I originally stated sometimes it will lock/unlock but this appears to be random after a reboot. Maybe there should be a lock function in the configuration panel?

Really getting fed up with this situation and may as well go back to version 3. Not much in 4 to make the hassle worth the time wasted.

hi, everyone.

I have had this issue lately, which was not actually an issue. I was right-clicking on the desktop and trying to unlock fences from that menu.

Then I realized that I needed to right-click on the Fences folder, go to the 'View' option, and then unlock fences. That is where you can unlock the fences, and not from the desktop right-click 'Unlock Fences.'

I hope this will help those who are struggling to unlock or lock fences.

Ich habe Fences v. 5.04 Vollversion auf Windows 11 v 23H2 (Build 22631.2861) und bei mir gib es in keinen der oben genannten Kontextmenü den Schalter  Fences sperren/entsperren
