OK, what does Photoshop CS really do?

Makes a profit for Adobe of course.
I'm still trying to get v.7 to do what I want!

I wish I could say that it was because of the lack of features, but I haven't upgraded because of the product activation. I might when I finally buy new hardware, but atm I am very satisfied with 7.0, and I honestly don't want to install and then have to go through the activation process when I upgrade my machine in the next year or so. I'll probably upgrade to XP at the same time.

Sorry to sound whiney, but as a dedicated *paying* Photoshop user for several years, product activation is like a poke in the eye. I wouldn't have a problem giving them a call if I had to install it more than twice in a year, but I hate the idea of them making a personally identifiable 'fingerprint' of my machine. I don't believe for a second that a cent of the money they would normally lose to piracy will find its way back to the user, either. This version certainly doesn't reflect any price change.

Not sure, it das give some updates but most are with images for the internet and stuff like that.
I am defenatly not going to upgrade, I will stick to my old one.

IT does not do anything. It just paints for You.
I have it but I can't see any differences. Ahh, yes, the logo screen is changed

i´m still waiting for the German version.
for the professional custom hotkeys are a real timesaver and worth the upgrade alone. and layer comps sound really great.
if you´re just using it for hobby purposes than you probably don´t need to upgrade. it´s a professional tool to make money not to cost.

It also is more for the Professional Graphics shop. Worgroup version controls and such have been enhanced. Help system is a little more detailed and it is tied into the Adobe website, Studio Site and such...

Not worth upgrading as moshi points out unless your in the professional arena and can justify the price...

Actually if your going to spend the money then the whole CS Premium Suite is the wya to go...

i can't seem to figure out how to set the keyboard shortcuts. it's an elementary problem, yet no one knows how to fix it. any suggestions?

The Morphium, howmuch das it costs to upgrade from 7 to cs?

i think 199 bucks. My dad's office does have a few of them, so I have it too.

I got my boss to buy it. A few features I really love:

- History snapshots: you can actually take a snapshot of a particulat point in your history list. Then even if you make mucho changes, you can always go back to that particular point in your work. YOu can take as many snapshots as you want. Extermely usefull IMO.

- Layer comps: Very usefull if you do web graphics with mouse-over effects and such. Basically, you can show the layers you want, with the effects you want, in the position you want, then save it as a layer comp. You can in one click swich from one layer comp to another. Very usefull.

- Text on a path: well, that's a feature PS should have had long ago, and it's about time that feature is added.

- Improved File browser: I actually never used the file browser in the past, but now, it's actually a nice way to retrieve your images.

- Faster. Yes it is.

That's about it for me. Yes, well worth the upgrade, imo.

Imperial Fizz: That's what you get for using a crack.  The activation crack messes up the keyboard shortcut. Bummer isn't it?  Guess you'll have to buy it to get it to work properly.

It really is worth it though, I personally love the nested layer sets, as I'm a huge organization buff.

paxx: how are the History snapshots any different than what we already had? I can right click any point in the history now and make a snapshot with 7.0. Has it been improved in some way?

bah, poo. I thought I had a new excuse to buy it.

I just need to get to the point that I am 99% sure my hardware won't change for a while before I do. When I upgrade to XP and Photoshop CS, I want a box that has a reasonable chance of not being opened for 6 months. I guess I tinker around too much.

Granted, if they added some features I couldn't live without I would probably go ahead. If they had done the product activation at 7.0 I would have done it without hesitation, since 6.0 was such a suckfest.

Maybe the problem is Win2000 and PS 7.0 are such good products that there isn't that much incentive to tolerate activation.

Personaly I think the layer comps are incredibly usefull. I use them all the time now.  And a few little features here and there.
It has a script feature too, that I don't think existed in previous versions. I guess it's a bit like the actions, but more powerful. A lot like the Gimp foo scripts, if you're familiar with the Gimp. Eventually, I'm sure there'll be tons of scripts you can download.

I think that along with the intergration across all of the CS suite and the improvments to the Workgroup version tracking is the selling points for it and the whole suite.

From what I have read in PS magazine and other publications, those seem to be the things people have spent more time praising...

well i used photoshop befor but now iv changed to photoimpact becuase it has some better ways to do things

I'll probably stick with trying to get Photoshop 6 or 7 and wait until I start my own little business then I can see getting Photoshop CS (the whole suite in fact)

Its not actually fluff.
Most of it is made for workflow and productivity increases.
And it really does matter when you're doing high volume work.

yep and also where you are doing dynamic production crossing over all the apps that make up the suite. even more so when you have a number of people working on a number of projects all at the sametime...
