Could a Sins work on a smaller scale?

Since turrets move now throwing that usefulness in a huge ball of flames is kinda pointless.

What if Sins scaled down to maybe a fleet level of 30 ships max but with more involvement on the smaller things like targeting, ammo inventory, even Captains....it would be like Governores in Civ except for ship abilities.

You would upgrade everything and would meet more difficult reces deeper into space you go.

This is a very interesting proposition, but it does sound slightly out of scope. Are you maybe instead envisioning a specific game mode? I'd love to hear more.

This is IMO what Falling Frontier is shooting for, big scale RTS/4X combo, but with smaller scale battles and ships not so easily replaceable. Pretty much as if Sins was just capship game.

Personally, i prefer how Sins is doing it, or better said, if FF doing it that way, i am fine with Sins sticking to its bigger scope, SupCom like approach. It kinda makes more sense as well, no point in big multi-planet maps, if you dont have enough ships to cover them.

I see moving turrets as a gimmick anyway. Sure, i wanted it too, but mostly cause it adds to the immersion, for the visual experience, not for its gameplay repercussions.

The turrets would not be a gimmick if on a scale that each shot mattered, as opposed to mass balls of bullets.

Never seen that Falling Frontier...I looked at the video, that huge planet backdrop with the ships fighting above it is something I've mentioned online before.

just saying that tactical combat where turrets would matter more would make more sense in a game where terrain is involved. I mean tactical terrain, not strategic one. What Homeworld 3 is trying to do with addition of those megaliths.

On topic of FF, definitely one to keep the tabs on, if you like Sins. Could be possibly even better game than Sins II, simply on the grounds of being fresh and bit more differrent, rather than extension of older, well known game. I will probably still prefer Sins, but will definitely this one give a try.

Fragile Existence would be another interesting choice, adding actual ground based gameplay, and then obviously aforementioned HW3. These are 4 games i am looking forward to this year. Hopefully they will deliver.

They are saying that individual missles can be brought down, all well and good but whos going to care in a mass fireball?

Why do the math?

On a smaller scale where each shot counted I see it being a thing.

Just passing thru....

I suppose they taken that from SupCom, where individual projectiles were simulated too. And it really did. Not make that much sense as it was such a big scale game, that it rarely mattered. I mean with nukes and anti nukes maybe.

I've thought about this and it would be best served by a spinoff like Sins of a Solar Empire: Tactics or something. More realistic scales, but much smaller in play area. Definitely not something for the near term.
