Changelogs

Start11 1.27

  • Version 1.26 was updated to fix a pinning issue, version was updated as a result.

Start11 1.26 change log:

  • NEW (experimental): Users can now center the Start11 button when using the Start11 Enhanced Taskbar. This supports custom start buttons too.
  • New - You can now rename shortcuts on the Win10/11 style start menus via the right-click menu
  • Fixed issue with restart computer when other users are logged in not working correctly after the warning message.
  • Fixed alignment of the new centered start button option to take into account the extra width of the bar
  • Fixed issue with taskbar being sluggish when file copies were taking place when enhanced taskbar was enabled.
  • Added new localization strings for 1.26 for new UI changes
  • Resolved flicker issue when opening the start menu on Win11 insider builds when animations are disabled
  • A code change to potentially resolve an issue with universal app icons loading as solid black in edge cases
  • Change to initialization of taskbar code to possibly help with wrong icons loading from the icon cache for pinned items
  • Fixed issue with only 1 sysicon causing a scrolling arrow to show sometimes

  • Changed Start11 to open the menu on the primary monitor when opened via the Winkey rather than the monitor the mouse is on. If anyone wishes to use the old behavior you can do so by defining "OldWinKeyLogic" as a string value here HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8 and giving it a value of "1"
  • Fixed issue with keyboard not opening groups on the menu correctly when enter is pressed. Pressing space now also toggles them.
  • Fixed issue with rapid clicking on taskbar button with no other open windows not always minimizing the window consistently.
  • Resolved problem with some custom scaling factors causing the start menu to not show or show on the wrong screen.
  • Resolved issue where all programs button overlaps shutdown button when in compact mode Win7/modern style with quick launch hidden and search disabled.
  • Resolved issue with right-click on date when taskbar is at the top on Windows 11 providing a menu that did not work correctly when clicked.
  • Internal redesign of some taskbar logic to prevent the possibility of a hang
  • Now supports MS edge website shortcuts on the Win10/11 style start menus (Requires Windows 11)
  • Resolved issue with erroneous rapid clicking on the start button resulting in the menu not being visible but then animating out next time you click.
  • Fixed an issue on Windows 11 native start icon where it would not consistently register clicks, they would appear pent up and flash a bunch in a row.

  • Resolved flicker issue when opening the start menu on Win11 insider builds when animations are disabled
  • A code change to potentially resolve an issue with universal app icons loading as solid black in edge cases
  • Change to init of taskbar code to possibly help with wrong icons loading from the icon cache for pinned items
  • Updated user submitted Japanese translation (credit to user htakado)
  • Netflix when fullscreen (and other universal apps) no longer vanishes from the enhanced taskbar
  • Issues with multi-line system tray icons painting under the clock or leaving too much space etc resolved
  • Search for Windows settings items enhanced slightly
  • Search results for apps now show two lines of text vs one as some apps have quite long names which make it less usable
  • Taskbar shifting down 12 or so pixels (at 100% scaling) hopefully resolved
  • Taskbar shifting along the screen for some users on occasion hopefully resolved

  • Fixed issue with not showing Search/Task view / Widgets / Chat sometimes when toggled on from an off state
  • Fixed issue with Win7 mode where clicking to open the jumplist via keyboard (space key) didn't set the focus correctly to an expanded list
  • Worked around an issue with universal app icons when running caused by using Actual Window Guard
  • Worked around an issue with the menu closing incorrectly sometimes when you want to open it when using Actual Window Guard
  • Resolved issue with an explorer crash in rare circumstances with enhanced taskbar enabled
  • Search results for settings now wrap the text when required in Start11 search mode
  • Fixed issue with Brave browser profiles overlay image appearing bottom right (normal for Win10) rather than top right on the icon on Windows 11
  • Stopped very tall window switcher lists jumping to the top of the screen in error with enhanced taskbar enabled.
  • Resolved an issue with seconds on the clock in US region causing shifting of icons sometimes depending on the date

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

  • Because of changes made by Microsoft in Windows 11 22h2, a top taskbar with autohide turned on is not possible.

Windows 10 Pro 19045.2075; using the Start11 Windows 10 Style menu

I installed the Start 11 ver. 1.26 beta over 1.25 Stable today. After the reboot, half of my Start Menu icons were missing and I was unable to re-pin them from the All Apps section of the start menu. I had created a Restore Point before the install, and after restoring to the previous state before the 1.26 install, the same Start Menu icons were still missing, but I now was able to re-pin them.

I will try to figure out what happened when I have more time to try the install again and update this thread.

Hello,

The taskbar thumbnail preview does not hide when minimizing the window

You can see here: Taskbar thumbnail preview does not hide when minimizing window - YouTube

And can you add an option to disable the "Taskbar Thumbnails Preview"?

Same issue here! The icons came back when I reinstalled 1.25

So the icons all came back without any action from you having reinstalled 1.25?

Do you know which icons were missing?

Are you able to export the contents of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\GroupContents if you were using a Win10 style menu or HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\GroupContents11 if you were using a Win11 style menu and host the file somewhere and send me a private message with a link to it please along with information on which ones went missing.

Many thanks.

Okay. The second time I attempted to install 1.26, not as many icons were missing, some of the icons that were missing the first time were not missing on the second attempt. I was still unable to re-pin any icons from the All Apps section of the start menu. Before I attempted to try again to install 1.26 I made sure the Windows 10 Start Menu was identical to the Start 11 ver. 1.25 menu.

I exported the Registry location you suggested before the update and then tried to install it after the 1.26 Install. I didn't help. I had to re-install 1.25 again because I couldn't pin anything.

Here are before and after screenshots of the Start 11 Start menu page 1.

Here are before and after screenshots of the Start 11 Start menu page 2.

I sent the before and after Registry entries you asked for by private message. Upon inspection, they appear to be identical. I believe that Start11 thinks the missing icons are still pinned and that is why they cannot be re-pinned. Something in the new code seems to be preventing them from being displayed properly even though Start11 registers them as being pinned.

Why in the world can I still not drag a program from the Start11 menu and drop to my desktop? Am I missing something? I have to disable Start11, drag/drop through the Windows 11 menu, then reenable Start11. Not really ideal.

Hello,

In Windows 10, if we open 2 Chrome application, we can right click to taskbar icon and select to close one by one.

Can you support this for Start11 (at this time, only option “close all” when right click)

Thank you.

I installed Beta 1.26 on my Windows 11x64 Pro (21H2 (OS Build 22000.1042) system.  Start11 is set to Windows 10 style menu.  About 20% of my icons were missing and could not be re-pinned.  I tried re-installing 1.25 but the icons were still missing.  I had to restore my system using Casper 11 backup.

The attached pic shows my Start11 menu as it should be (Windows 10 style).

i don't expect support i saw the message, as i'm on the win11 insider beta, but i got the same issue that everybody else, more than half of the icons disappeared...

the biggest issue is the inability to ping app again, i see no other choice to go back to 1.25, but just read that a restauration is better :(

In your video, you  never move your cursor off the taskbar icon. If I had to guess, this is why the thumbnail does not minimize. I tested this on my machine and indeed if I leave the cursor over the taskbar icon, the thumbnail does not minimize. Once I move the cursor away, the thumbnail minimizes.

Thanks to some customers sending over the information requested I am pleased to say we have identified the problem and hope to put out a 1.27 update later today which will ensure items do not go missing.

Please note that if you have altered your pinned items you will not find them restored automatically but if you have not changed anything then I believe they will reappear once the update is installed.

For now it is best to avoid installing 1.26 in case you have applications pinned which experienced this issue (not all apps do, only a specific class of apps)

This thread was updated with a fix for the pinning issues reported in 1.26. The build was updated to 1.27 and is available via either account link:

http://www.stardock.com/support/productkeyretrieval

https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

And in Object Desktop Manager.

Thanks for the quick feedback on this.

Hi,

But now you are talking the difference between Windows 10 and Windows11.

Your first post you said Windows 11, and like pelaird said, the preview stays longer than it does on Windows 10. Yes on Windows 10 it does go away immediately, you shouldn't really expect everything in two different version of the OS to work the same way in each

Hello Paul,

I tested on Windows 11 and you can see the difference when installing Start11 and not installing Start11:

Windows 11 with install Start11: Taskbar thumbnail preview does not hide when minimizing window - YouTube

I am not getting the same results as you on Win11 with Start11

As you see there is a delay, it's not the instant disappearing that it does on Win10

Same version of Windows as you, running S11 1.27

Do you/ have you ever had a similar product to Start11 installed on that computer?

I think the problem happens when we open Settings.

when in "combine always" advanced taskbar mode, no progressbar indicator is shown under icons when downloading or file copying or any other progress related, actually showing the icon of the app out of focus as if the app is closed

when in "combine sometimes" or "never combine" advanced taskbar mode, when launching a edge web app, the icon on the taskbar disappears and reappear after a page refresh in the ewa
