I just purchased a memory upgrade from 256mb sdram to 512mb sdram and I just want to know if it will make any difference how things run. Don't know alot about these things so if anyone out there does know, let me know. Thanks, Richard

You should notice an immediate improvement in responsiveness.
Kona0197...Maybe his MB doesn't support it
btw...HTF would you know, have you ever even had a PC that uses DDR

I have had 4 different computers in the last year and a half that use DDR. The last one I used made use of 3200 DDR. Quite expensive that memory was at the time.
Did not appreciate that comment... you could have worded it different. >

Sure Kona...Sure
Your constant conflicting and contradictory statements in just about every post you make has become more than annoying and quite tiresome. Fortunately for you there are some very patient people here.
I guess I'm just not one of them...Laters

I misunderstand. what is so contradictory?
In january of 03 I had a AMD DURON system with a K7S5A mobo and 256 megs of DDR. Traded that for a mac.
I guess not all people will be your friend. That's OK, your loss.

Well if you all haven't noticed (Jafo has) I don't post on every thread. In fact I have been very quiet lately.
I only posted that bit about DDR because everyone knows it is faster than SDRAM.
Oh well. Hind sight is always 20/20

kona .... obviously not "EVERYONE" knows DDR is faster than SDRAM and if their board supports either or .... I've known people to stuff 3x512Mb sticks of RAM into a board that can handle 3x256Mb and can't figure why they get SWFA increase!
Try to remember the bulk of users regard a PC as an appliance .... not a way of life.

way above my head.

point taken. thank you.
Zodiac, I will try to refrain from posting all the time and conridicting myself (if that is possible)

| I know kona, but its the way you posted it. It would have been better if you would have said something like--- If your machine could handle DDR, that would have been the way to go as its faster than SDRAM.Would have been more polite that way. |
Didn't realize I was being impolite. I was just trying to make a joke out of it. I guess I should have added a smiley.

Kona, it's not so much contradicting yourself (although you are good at that too), but contracting everybody all the time.
When somebody posts WHITE, one can be sure you'll drop by and say BLACK.
Go back and read just your latest posts. In this one, you tell the guy DDR is better than what he has. In another thread you tell another guy to get an ATI card instead of the NVIDIA he has.
Do you HAVE to always contradict people in their choice?
Indeed, although sometimes you can be cute because you seem so naive, other times it's just very tiring to see you challenge everybody the way you do.

Is it true that you have to put the bigger memory in first? (or A slots)? I've got rambus ram, (they have to come in pairs) In 'A' I've got two 64's, and in 'B' I've got two 128's
Should I switch them?

Not always....it depends on the MoBo....

Well, you guys won't believe it, but this "newbie" can actually help!
Just this afternoon I bought a 512 stick of DDR... whacked it sraight into the second slot, behind the 256 stick, (in other words, the spare one).
I booted up,checked for conflicts.... none, ran three of the most resource hogging proggys I could find at the same time, and whaddya know.... fast, smooth, happpy happy computer!
I now have all the ram I'll need for a while. 736 megs of it... woohoo!

DDR or SDRAM----if you double your RAM you'll see an immediate improvement in the performance of your 'puter. Like Wrecklesserk, I'm a 736 Meg-Man---now even more of a man than I ever was before
