GC4 Feedback Test Branch | VERSION 1.0.343808a

How To Handle Space Bugs

So you want to help us deal with space bugs huh? Well, there are plenty of them. Here we will give you some pointers on how to best help us.

Go to give feedback

  • You can also create your own unique threads and link them here. But include at least the basic details here!
  • Ensure the issue/feedback you are talking about is relevant to the VERSION NUMBER listed (See below for how)
  • Make sure all of your drivers are updated and verify the game files after every update before reporting an issue. This can often be the culprit.
  • If there is a bug that keeps repeating:
    • Include all steps you make to reproduce it.
    • Include any save games including auto saves.
    • Also please include debug.err files and pref.ini files as they can help with reproducing map generation or graphical errors.
    • When the crash dialogue appears ensure you put in an e-mail for our devs to follow up

How to tell which version you are on?

I mentioned this one or two versions back, and maybe it is working as designed... at least in part.

When I move a leader from a Minister slot back to the Unassigned Leaders section, loyalty is reduced by 10.

Specifically, the leader gains a -10 "Unassigned Leader" penalty. This doesn't bother me.

I believe there are two bugs here:

1. This penalty transfers back to the Minister slot. If you move the leader from the Unassigned Leader position back to the Minister position (after having previously been removed from the Minister position), they now have a -10 "Minister" penalty to loyalty.

2. This penalty stacks. So, if I unassign the leader a second time, they have "Unassigned Leader (2)" or "Minister (2)" and a -20 to loyalty.

I am playing 1.01 but I guess this does not matter much.

Bug?
- I do not know if this is a bug or intended. However, I attack a fleet that is invading one of my colonies. I "win" the fight but one ship of the enemies remains. The invasion stops
- Invasion stops if you do a missile volley

Feedback:
- Maybe it would be a better experience if high cost leaders would be exluded from the first pool of candidates (currently some can get their commanders and science minister at turn one and others not)
- Maybe show invasion symbol in the planet list

Battles can take more than one turn now.  It's possible that both sides will have ships survive the first round, so there will be another turn.  One or both sides can run away or attack during the next turn.  What you experienced is always possible.

I love that when I do it to an enemy attacking one of my planets.  I hate it when my enemy does it to me when I'm attacking one of their planets.

Is this "Discovered through chaos" something new you added?  I haven't seen this before.  Great idea, but you should make them come up as an event.  I didn't even know these were happening!

I know battles can take more than one turn and I like this change - thank you nonetheless.

My point is that sieges should not be broken by the following actions:

- a fight or a volley shot that do not destroy the invading fleet
- reinforcing the invading fleet

In my oponion it would be better - in regards of player experience/expectations - if these actions would result in a recalculation of the remaining invasion time. For example: A planet got 100 defense and the invading fleet has 20 attack power. The invasion would take five turns. After four turns it is 20 attack vs 20 defense and the invasion should be successful next turn. Now the invading fleet gets attacked and loses 10 attack power. A recalculation should take place so that the invasion now will take one additional turn (20/10).

Bug With Battle Location Icons

The battle location icons usually vanish after several turns.  Sometimes they don't, then they stay forever.  I've found what causes this and a way to reproduce it.  The save that is needed to show this available here.

Load the save "1 01 343914b Battle Icon Bug". You will start at Thea, and there is a probe nearby. There are space monsters very close, so follow instructions carefully. There is nothing to do, so go to the next turn. A space monster will destroy the probe, which generates a battle notification icon at the spot.

When it is your turn, move Thea 5 tiles to the northwest to keep it safe. Pass the rest of its turns, then go to the next turn.

Choose a tech. Move Thea to the southeast to get it close to several monsters. Pass any turns it has left, then go to the next turn.

The space monsters will destroy Thea, and now there are two battle notification icons. Go to the next turn.

The first battle notification icon will vanish like it should. Save the game - quick save is quickest. Go to the next turn.

The second notification is still there, so go to the next turn.

The second notification will vanish like it should.

Everything is normal, so where is the bug?

Load the save you you made a few steps earlier. You will be at Earth. Move up to where the battles with the monsters occurred. The second notification is back because the save was made before it vanished. Go to the next turn, then the next, then the next and continue until it vanishes. HINT: it will never vanish.

The bug is that battle notifications that exist when a save is made will never vanish after the save is loaded. They still work, but they just hang around cluttering up the galaxy.

There is a scrolling problem with the citizen list when population is more than six.  This shows where it occurs.

To make it easier to see in action (or non-action), I have a save at the time this screenshot was taken.  It is available here.  Load the save, click on Arcea to select it, then try to scroll the images.  Using the scroll bar or the scroll wheel on my mouse gives the save result:  the images begin to resist, then stop scrolling.  When I stop trying to scroll them, they instantly revert to this arrangement.

Colony upgrades should tell you how many you have available.  I know I have some multiples, or at least I should have, but there is no way to know if I'm using 1 of 1 or 1 of 3.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this one reported, but if so it's still happening.  Took over a Torian planet thru influence.  It has no capital and there is no way for me to add one.

I have gathered a lot of typos, bugs and other problems into two documents.  Some of them I reported many versions ago, but they haven't been fixed.  Others are new reports.

One document (GC4 101 Bugs  Part 1) has typos and similar errors that can be fixed easily.  I also have the reports sorted alphabetically by the name of the file containing the problem.  I don't think they will take very long to fix, if my suggested fixes are approved.

The other document (GC4 101 Bugs  Part 2) has problems that may be more complicated to fix.

Both documents are in Open Document format, but should open without a problem in Word.  It worked that way when I submitted documents this way in the past.

They are both available in a zip file here.
