The articles have not proven wrong. Your nag screen confirms that for your edition of Windows as well: Tell me what a Microsoft account has to do with your OS? Tell me why you would have to sign into that account in order to use your computer, and what will happen to all your work, documents, and everything else when that account is hacked?
The articles on the OP prove themselves. Whether Warez appear to try and hack Windows isn't relevant to the central question of whether Windows PCs will become DaaS...and I think W11, the fancy security patch for W10, is another step on the way to that.
I am not taking issue with what you say Doc, more my point is, what ever crap they pull, there will always be a work around of one type or other. They did announce Windows 10 would be a Daas but that changed. I have a zero footprint in in the cloud anyway, so personally, i have to rely on my IT skillset to not get hacked. I too have seen many articles regarding this on Reddit, all come with several workarounds posted in replies. As this latest MS issue gets closer, more users will find ways to get things just how they like regardless of what MS do, i can not see that changing, hence my Replies of "MS Push, Others Push Back"
There is no need to have to sign into a MS account to use your PC, i agree with you, we should not have to, if you do not want to. It is not always Warez hacking that gets around a problem, as not all the workarounds require any hacking at all, i think that will continue as we see more and more MS Bull. Right now that nag screen of mine is just that, my machines still have complete and full functioning if i do nothing about that nag screen. We can hope that enough peeps make a big issue with this and vote with there Wallets, although i think there will still be too many who do not.
I do think MS would like to control everything we do and how on our machines, including making Future Win 11s a Daas, but after decades of users doing it the older way ie Buying there OS, or getting a free upgrade with Data wholes in it, it will be a huge change in direction to have to pay just to use Windows on fully cloud based services. MS has implemented serious user unfriendly things before and back tracked when they realised the user backlash is not what they expected, will they do it again over this, time will tell, even if they do not see the light, others will ,and will continue to help users do and set up things how they want. Everything i have read about this over the last few months is upsetting users. The replies in such articles are always a mix of between users who will not upgrade, and those who have found ways to get around this and report back in how to do it. The closer we get to this full roll out over all Editions , the more we will see user friendly ways around it. Windows 11 as a service is not for me either, will i pay for it as a Daas, no, but i will watch the scene closely until i a work around i am happy with comes along, yes.
