Bug - get black screen - have to kill game in task manager

Early game, turn 8. Populate new planet, advisor says to assign governor, see that I do not have enough credits. Go to screen and raise taxes to medium, or up one level. Close that screen then advisor tells me people of earth unhappy. Click that it it tries to go earth screen I guess but quickly the screen goes black. Music still playing but cannot get back out of there and have to kill it.

same here; I have verified 4-5 times, restarted computer3-4 times and this morning even updated graphics card!! Nothing works!! Started 3-4 games, got a starting area I liked and played until yesterday afternoon. Put up, went to another game, came back last nite and since then game won't launch to main game page. Whether I use desktop short cut or from Epic launch, game gets to first screen shot of a desert planet photo and says loading at bottom; then Epic side thing saying I can get into social thing. Then screen goes black with cursor able to move around, game never gets to main screen. I have let it sit in black screen for as much as 5 minutes, nothing.  I also have experienced 

clicking on any advisor gives a weird thing, where in core planets screen you can't see all of left side screen. Verifying did correct that.

Anyways, can't play game at all.

I do have a similar problem with another outcome:

After clicking the advisor telling me that a "planets citizens are unhappy" the screen turns black an only the upper taskbar remains. I can click on the research button to the upper left (showing me how much weeks are left for research) so I get to the research screen. So I can go back to the game. When I go directly to the planet by clicking it I do not have the issue - just by clicking the advisor.
