Start11 1.1.0.1 changelog:

Keeping the internal dates to help break it up a bit.

1/10/2022
  • Updated S11 1.1 to be 1.1.0.1
  • Fix for horizontal wheel mouse swapping pages in the wrong direction
  • Fixed too small icons on Win11 style (in all lists & search, just less obvious on main page as icons bigger)
12/30/2021
  • Fixes for issues found by QA before Christmas
  • A fix for open file location not working for all shortcuts for one user
12/20/2021
  • You can now rearrange Fences groups and set icon size (win10 style) and it gets saved.
  • Also added option to lock icon positions in win10/11 menus (right-click menu)
  • Fixed folder group icons being the wrong size sometimes for Win11 menu style
  • Stopped you from being able to drag icons into Fences group from the Win10 menu all apps list
12/17/2021
  • This fixes some crashes with some edge cases
  • Makes search add priority to items you have pinned
  • Auto pins and unpins things when you use the OS pin to start option (may take a few seconds) plus unpins from OS menu if you unpin from S11 (Win10/11 menus only).
  • Adds in option to show Fences on the S11 Win10/11 menus
  • Improves performance of folder expansion animation and fixes deadlock potential issue with that.
  • Removes items pinned when the user uninstalls the app (Universal apps ONLY - Win10/11 menu only too)
12/09/2121
  • Fixes for some issues with the new folder groups such as not deleting when the last item was removed,
  • Fixes for not scaling the mini icons with icon scaling options
  • Fixed missing icons for Minesweeper
  • Made it insert new group in Win10 mode in the right column if one is missing
  • Fixed too small icons on Win11 menu all apps list
12/06/2021
  • New: Win10 and Win11 styles now support folders. You drag an icon over another icon holding down the shift key to combine them. You can also right-click on the menu and pick the option to pretend shift is down in order to achieve this should you have no keyboard (say touch device).

We are not doing this like Microsoft as their method of combining things all too often turns into chasing the target around the menu as there is natural confusion between putting an icon here and making a group/folder.
  • New: Win10 and Win11 styles now offer a right-click Icon submenu when you right-click on an icon. This lets you pick a custom image that will replace the icon. Images should be square for Win11 styles and small, medium, and large tile sizes on Win10 and 2:1 on Wide tiles
  • New: On the very first run of Start11 on a Win10 install, the existing Win10 menu will be imported for the Win10 style including folders. This will not happen for existing customers but if they wish they can import theirs by going into the registry and deleting the following keys and rebooting. Items that do not actually exist locally but are MS advertising for apps will not be imported.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\GroupContents
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Groups
    and deleting this key :
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Stardock\Start8\Start8.ini\Start8\CreatePinned10

Fixes \ changes

  • Fixed issue with recent apps list having a network location in it which is not accessible causing Win11 menu to appear blank for a prolonged period.
  • Mouseover correctly shows on Win10 tiles now when they use a tile image
  • Surplus line at the bottom of the W7/Modern styles when in nonrounded mode resolved
  • Tweaks to experimental tile and Universal app icon loading to better handle apps with different icons for light/dark mode
  • Added refresh icons option to Win10/11 menus to refresh icons should the user have changed icons via a tile editing app or due to OS icon cache changes
  • Reduced gap between groups on Win11 menu when icon sizes are smaller vs having a fixed size
  • Added option to Win11 style to load up tile images

Version Numbering Roadmap

Previously, we communicated plans to make the 1.1 update include features that are related to the taskbar. Because we completed many additional features ahead of schedule (folders, importing of menus, and more) we wanted to get these features released ahead of the taskbar update. To keep our process consistent, we are branding this release version 1.1 - version 1.2 is now the target build for features that enhance the taskbar.

Others

  • When using the Windows 11 style menu, control panel icons may appear smaller than expected.
  • After updating to 1.1.01, the version will still read 1.1 on the About tab of the S11 UI.  You can ensure that you are on 1.1.01 from the properties of the Start11Config.exe file:
    Reduced 94%

Why aren't the translations being updated with the new versions?

How about using an internationally unambiguous date format, e.g 12 January 2022 rather than 1/12/22, which would be interpreted as 1 December 2022 in many parts of the world?

Why aren't the translations being updated with the new versions?

The supported translations are listed here:

https://forums.stardock.com/507795/start11-community-translations

While we will make an effort to include other user-created translations, only those will ever be maintained by us regularly.  If there are gaps in translations for the supported languages, its because of the fast pace of releases for Start11 of late.  Over time, they will be caught up.

If you don't want to wait, there are directions there on how to update the lang files yourself.  Just know that any reinstall will overwrite them.

Sometimes I want to open several apps at the same time from the start menu.

Is it possible to get a feature that allows us to keep the start menu up and open, even after we have pressed an app? So we can press another app directy without having to go down and press the start menu button again?

Or, a command that if I right click a folder with apps in it, I can order it to open all of the apps just a like a bookmark folder in a browser?

I have made four updates to the Spanish language since the initial version of Start11, and none of my updates have been integrated into new versions.

Regards.

And I have thanked you for all of them - they are very much appreciated.  There are just so many things we can get done with each release.

Again, once the next update is released, with some rather bountiful changes, I suspect we will include updated translations.

Thanks for your feedback.

Will we see the ability to disable the slide in animation anytime soon? Last mention I see was in September 2021 https://forums.stardock.com/507205/page/1/

Thank you, I'm really enjoying the product.

There is already an option to disable the open menu animation in Start11.  We put it into v1.0

It is under customize menu visual appearance which is under the settings cog for whatever menu style you picked.

Does your roadmap include support for Windows 11 ARM for use under Parallels Desktop for the Apple M1 processor?  Start11 currently fails at startup.

Oh thank you so much! I went looking in 1.1 and 1.0 but some how overlooked this.

Hello! So far its very good :)

Just a minor "issue" about the font used after you click the letter in the program list. The font used there isn't consistent with the rest of the ui. Also its not centered, but this could be by design and if it is, maybe you can have an option to center it?

Thanks

Rodolfo

I use the Windows 11 menu and I have a folder at the bottom, when I click it the folder expands but the contents are not visible, I have to scroll manually to see it.

An auto-scrolling feature would be nice in this case

Or have the option to change to dd/mm/yy instead of mm/dd/yy.

Absolutely, but I was thinking more in the context of info in the forums (fora?) such as in the changelog at the top of this page.

Boot/Crash Loop:

- Windows 11 Build 22526.rs_prerelease.2112151332

- Replication Steps: Launch the program

- Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnW1f7YbAyc

Please advise. I desperately want the functionality that Start11 offers and I've paid for the license. I'd very much like for this to work properly!

We would need more information on the issue.  Is there anything logged in event log which says what is actually crashing?

Did you have a previous version of Start11 working on this computer, or is this the first time you have installed it?

Start11 version 1.1.0.1
Windows 11 Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.434)
Windows 10 Style

Issue: Holding Shift and dragging icons on top of each other does not combine them to create a folder group. None of the new features added to the right click menu is available.

Here's a video link to demonstrate the issue:
https://gyazo.com/7abfba3d22b7bcf26f3fa7787b6c997f

Uninstall Start11, REBOOT, reinstall Start11.

I suspect a file was not replaced correctly.

Edit: Update to the below, but leaving it posted as there is an issue that needs to be looked at. When I tried to add icons to Start11 the app crashed and service restarted and then all my tiles reappeared, so that's solved it.

Just installed the update via the app update, and now all my Windows 10 icons have vanished  >:( the panel is blank as in screenshot.

Where are these saved so I can restore as it's a pain to re-organise and remember what was there.

Even the Windows Menu icon is gone, how do I get that back so I can view the Windows 11 start menu. Do I have to add everything to the panel manually again and what will stop this happening at the next update, so can you send me instructions of how I can back this up, I'll take a screenshot too so I can re-org the way I want.
