Galaxy setup

I can see you only have one galaxy size available for now, but what size is that, and what is the max number of players on it?

I don't know where you got that information, but it is competely wrong.

The current 0.60 alpha has the following galaxy sizes:
Singular
Local cluster
Galactic Arm
Galactic Ring
Galaxy Spanning

The recommended number of players are:
  4
  6
16
24
64

I am just not seeing any difference between the small and large galaxy types. Are some stars hidden from the map initially?

Ok i guess it is just the starting sector you see, but how do you move between sectors?

You need to research it, Subspace Scanning allows you to see the lanes connecting to other sectors, Subspace Streaming lets you travel on them.  These techs follow Survey Ships -> Anomaly Detection.

I understand the confusion now.  Only the starting sector is visible at the start of the game, which can be Tiny, Small, Medium, or Large in size.  Once you do the research that allows you to see and travel the subspace streams, the rest of the sectors in the galaxy will be available to you.  There can be a lot of sectors in a very large galaxy, depending on your choices at the start of the game.

All the sectors fit in a "galaxy" that is made like the galaxies in GalCiv3, but only the area in the sectors is usable in GalCiv4 until a late tech is researched that allows travel between sectors without using the subspace streams.  That tech is not active in the 0.60 alpha.

I'm not sure how the sizes of the sectors compare to the sizes of the galaxies in GalCiv3.

For the largest galaxy, all the sectors fit in a "galaxy" that is more than five times the size of the largest (ludicrous) sized galaxy in GalCiv3, so the area in the sectors is very large.

I did a video on sectors that explains this https://youtu.be/6mNxUyCnECE

Thanks for the help. I started a game on a galactic arm with small starting sector, 16 opponents and close start position, and there are only 1 other race there. This is not that interesting I must admit. If you start with a single cluster will you then have only one sector?

If you start with a Galaxy Size of Singular, there will be just one sector.  That sector will be the largest sized sector in the game.

Is it possible to mod the max number of civs on a singular map?

I'm not sure.  I've looked at a number of the xml files and haven't found anything definite.

Thanks for looking. I can see there will be some changes to map setups in the next release, so hope it might be possible then.

Still hope you are going to let us play in a single huge cluster with more opponents than 5. Or you can set how many players should start in your own starting sector. That would be really nice.
