Weird problem..

When upgrading an existing program on my system, the icon/shortcut on both the all apps list and the start menu disappears.  Just upgraded my VPN client and the installer first uninstalled the previous version and then installed the new one.  The standard Win11 app list and start menu is fine but Start11 loses the app shortcut completely.  Kind of a pain because Start11 does not think the app is installed on the system.   Need to go into install directory, find the shortcut, and manually add it.  Rebooting or restarting explorer also works.

Does not happen with new installs--only upgrades of existing apps where the upgrade script removes the old version first.

?

What do you mean by this?

Ok. Let me clarify.

So when using the windows 11 theme, any shortcut icons or folders that I have altered via the change icon option that are pinned to the start menu no longer have the custom changed icon look and have instead reverted to the original default icons.

When using windows 10 theme this is also true, but if I enable the experimental tile option then the icons also will change to the new icons so it seems the experimental option is also preventing custom changed icons.

Interesting thought...

If switching on and off experimental tile option is what is causing this behavior, what would happen if the experimental tile option was also added to windows 11 theme? That could be fun...

Edit. The computer just needs to be restarted for icons to take affect. You can disregard, although interesting thought can stay.

Edit. I switched to v 1.0 then back to v 1.01 to check and see if it was a v 1.01 problem. The reinstallation seems to fix this issue with NEW custom icons as they seem to stick when reinstalled.

That is very odd as the icon is not saved anywhere for groups.  Icons are located on load up of the menus and nothing should have changed in that regard since 1.0

I also tried switching my monitors between primary to secondary. Changing wallpaper from stretch to fill. Switching the taskbar from top to bottom and vise versa. But the only way to resolve in putting the taskbar back to the bottom of the screen.

Are you planning to ever fix the highlighting issue as you hover your mouse over the Start11 menus?
Maybe these pictures below explain it better. The red arrows point to the highlight on all images.

Here is the Windows 11 start menu and you can easily see the highlight where the mouse pointer is sitting.

Here is the Start11 menu and you can barely even see the highlight at all.

When using the windows 10 style the start11 menu not always is used when using the windows icon on the bottom left corner, only when the focus is on the desktop. For example if Im using google chrome and want to enter the windows10 style menu via the icon rather than the windows key, the start menu will be the standard windows 11 start menu. However the Win key will always work.

Hi

I'm using version 1.0.

on

Edition    Windows 11 Pro
Version    21H2
Installed on    ‎11/‎11/‎2021
OS build    22000.348
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22000.348.0

I use a Windows 7 style start menu as I have for years on W10 using Start 10. My issue is that the recent & pinned file lists against pinned apps on the menu are not populating properly, if at all. The screenshot below, for example, shows that the list for Excel hasn't populated at all. Annoying, as that's my preferred method of accessing my most used files.

When using the option "load up custom static tile images (experimental)" on the Win10 style, the app "Microsoft Minesweeper" will have no icon.

I have pinpointed my issue.

It is actually a slight compatibility issue between TileIconifer ( https://github.com/Jonno12345/TileIconifier/releases ) and start 11. These two programs actually work very well together as far as custom tiles for windows 10 theme is concerned. But there is one setting that will cause start 11 to have some odd behavior. You can not Iconify and app / folder AND use a custom icon at the same time for the same shortcut. Iconified (custom tiles) must be made with shortcuts that have their icons set to default instead. I have found myself switching between both windows 10 theme and windows 11 theme regularly and that is how I ran into this problem. I wanted custom folder shortcuts in windows 11 theme and custom tile folders in windows 10 theme. I guess I will have to pick one or the other now.

If you run excel do you get the jump list content on a right click on the taskbar item for it?

We only show what we are provided by the OS.

One possible reason is if you have accidentally disabled the option in the OS to track recent info like this.  Doing so will stop jump lists working.

I get the Excel jump list on the file page. Same for Word. Word has populated the jump list from the start menu, but wrongly! Some goes for Acrobat.

If there is an OS control option, I have no idea where to find it.

And having toggled off and back to on, I have now lost the jump lists completely. :-(

And I have gone so far as to edit the registry to implement jump lists and still nothing.

1) Right clicking on some pinned apps and selecting (More/Run as administrator) will pop up an error. For example, doing this on the standard Win11 app, Defragment and Optimize Drives, will pop up the error. Interesting that if you open the app in administrator mode by Ctrl+Shift+Click that it opens in administrator mode without any error popping up. This issue happens on several pinned apps. The apps open correctly in the Windows 11 start menu.

This exactly i reported on post #1 and #2 on https://forums.stardock.com/508476/page/1/#3827235

And yet nothing seems to be done.
