Groupy 1.50 Changelog

  • On Win11, explorer windows no longer have a black top bar when in combine mode.
  • Tweak to stop file copy dialogs being grouped with other windows (say xplorer2)
  • Tweak which may resolve black flash issue on Win7 when switching tabs,
  • Fix for FancyZones compatibility.
  • Note that tabs will not look ideal on Win11 and other issues may exist as early build of OS, but the worst issue (black bar) resolved.
  • Resolve a flicker issue changing tabs in Win11 sometimes (explorer only we think)
  • Fixed a problem with maximized windows shifting in from the screen border sometimes
  • Updated Korean language:
    https://forums.stardock.com/501539/get;3809151
  • Fix for the reported issue with windows with text updating on another virtual desktop causing groupy flicker on the other desktop.
  • Tweaks + button to ignore the file passed to notepad so notepad always opens a new instance.

Groupy 1.5 and FancyZones (current as of 10/6/21) do not play nice with Mozilla Firefox 93.0

Open Firefox.

Drag it to a FancyZone that borders on the top of the screen.

Click on the Firefox hamburger menu and open a new private window.

The tab row added by Groupy extends off the top of the screen; it's mostly obscured.

On Windows 11 (final release 22000.194) rounded corners are not working correctly with the latest Office 365 Insider build (v.2111, build 14530.20000).

'On Win11, explorer windows no longer have a black top bar when in combine mod'

I'm not sure what this issue was but on Win11 release when File Explorer has focus there is a "black bar" on the current tab using 1.5. It obstructs the window border.  Functions fine but ugly.

That is a different issue.  The issue was the entire area where new and those icons were turned black and so made explorer unusable.

Full Windows 11 compatibility is for a future version of Groupy.

The issue in 1.50 with a grouping of Office 365 Insider products on Windows 11 GA build (22000.194).

There is a small section showing at the top and before the actual office application window.  I know this was fixed in Explorer but seems any office apps you group it is there.

Is it just mer or does groupy makes your mouse klick glitch out?

For example when dragging a window, or a file or anything that requiers you to hold left mouse button. It drops the file or window. Like there is a small glitch where the mouse looses contact.

Groupy shouldn't have any impact on that.  It is possible your mouse button contacts are getting worn as I have seen that happen with a mouse before.

Did this update fix the issue with OperaGx? It was actually a pain to stop OperaGx from auto-updating, and would rather not go through that again. (Couldn't rename operagx tabs on the latest operagx had reported it in forums)

The same here.  It does not work at all.  In fact, the only application that seems to respond is the File Explorer.

Quite regularly, one, or more, app that is grouped will go completely blank(see screenshot).  I have this behavior so far with firefox and visual studio code(both the latest version) and only when they are part of a groupy group.  The only way to get any display back is to close the app and reopen a new instance.

This is  on Windows 11 and Groupy 1.5.  I am not sure if this problem was present with previous version as I only started using groupy with v1.5

I also encountered this kind of tricky problem.

Groupy 1.5 not correctly working anymore after update to WIndows 11.

Grouping 2 windows works, a 3rd doesn't. Merging groups does.

Screenrecording of the buggy behaviour:
https://1drv.ms/v/s!Ao9ATyuRxP7wjoJYmbwCkCvlmC2kKw?e=exGv5S

Please address this as Groupy is a key component of my workflow.

Unless I am doing something wrong here, I could not reproduce what you are seeing:

https://cdn.stardock.us/support/uploads/2021-11-03_11-06-37.mp4

Couple things I would like you to try:

  • Try making the already grouped windows larger than what you are adding to it
  • Try with these options:

I tried

  • setting both the shift and ctrl key for grouping (I normally have no key for grouping)
  • running Groupy as an Administrator
  • using Edge as in your example to make sure it's not app specific.
  • making the window to add to a grouop smaller
  • updating Windows
  • joining Windows Insider and updating to latest beta

Nothing helped :(

Some observations as shown in the screenrecordings below:

  • When trying to join a 3rd window, a new tab in the Groupy bar is shown with the text 'Window not responding'
  • When setting 'delaying group creation' to e.g. 1 sec, Groupy doesn't do anything. Not even group 2 windows. No tab bar is created above the windows.
  • When dragging a window group, the tab bar doesn't get dragged along until I release my mouse button. Tried dragging using the window title bar, aswel as using the groupy tab bar.
  • Sometimes windows dissapear.
    • When clicking on their icon in the Windows taskbar, focus toggles bewteen the dissapeared window and the window which last had focus. The dissapeared window doesn't get shown.
    • When hovering over the icon and then hovering over the preview, the window is shown. When clicking, nothing happens.
    • As you can see in the screenrecording, the window position and size of the dissapeared Windows Mail app doesn't correspond to another visable window, so it seems it's not just grouped without having the Groupy tab bar.

Another bug I just experienced is that after I grouped the Groupy settings dialog and then ungrouping it, it had the wrong size and is not resizable. But that's something I can live with. Non-resizable windows are almost always dialogs which I don't need to group.

I realize it's very hard troubleshooting/debugging if you can't reproduce it yourself. Please let me know if I can test something or provide more information.

Let's try with a simple test, using Notepad for example.  Are you able to reproduce the issue with just it?

I've tried with Notepad. Also making window to group smaller than the existing group of windows.

Combinations of settings tried:

  • Always group windows / group if window is held 1/3 second
  • Always group windows / group instantly
  • Group when CTRL is held down
  • Group only on titlebar zone (not in screenrecording)

Doesn't work.

On a positive note, I've discovered it's possible to group a window on a specific location in the Groupy tab bar. After 1,5 years using Groupy, I never discovered that feature

Since we cannot reproduce, nor have we any other reports, we have to believe it is a 3rd party app causing a conflict.  Please try a cleanboot:
