Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion v1.96 Release Notes

Ironclad Games and Stardock are pleased to announce the release of version 1.96 for Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion. This latest update includes a number of bug fixes and quality of life improvements that players have been asking for.

Awesome, was excited to see that update waiting for me in Steam. I have a question about possibly requesting something to be added for diplomacy, is it possible to add a request in diplomacy missions to have the A.I. colonize a planet? I was curious from a tactical standpoint it would be helpful when teaming up to be able to request them to take a new planet.

This is a bit out of scope for us at the moment.

Okey doke, thanks for the response!

Thanks for the update guys! Would there be a possibility of adding a "No Titans" option on the game start in the future?

Sorry, no. This is also out of scope.

Still no rebellion.user.setting override to be able to move the mod directory to an alternate location?

I'm still not able to play any mods as they always get backed up to OneDrive which then quickly gets filled up.

That should be quick an easy change that would make a lot of people's life easier.

You can setup a symbolic link in Windows to redirect this easily. Just create a Junction to where you want to files to actually live - The Complete Guide to Creating Symbolic Links (aka Symlinks) on Windows (howtogeek.com)

First thing I tried was a sym-link, but OneDrive follows the link and still backs up the mod directory. Hence the enhancement request as that is the only practical solution I can think of. https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/496444/enhancement-request-make-mod-directory-configurable

I'm at the office and don't have personal OneDrive on right now, but assuming it's like the business version - right-click on its taskbar icon -> Settings. On the Account tab there should be a Choose folders link. Can you unlink the Sins directory under My Games\Ironclad Games?

Though anyone who already has mods there has to take care. Clearing the checkbox on the 'Choose Folders' tab also removes the local files, so you'll need to move them elsewhere beforehand. Once you've cleared that checkbox for the mod directory you can put the backup of your mods back and OneDrive will no longer attempt to back it up. All a bit clunky really, especially the removal of local files. Hence why I thought a user-defined mod location would be a more elegant solution.

It is clunky and potentially horrific. OneDrive really should deal with it more cleanly.

OK Yarlen. Yet more OneDrive woes with the Mod directory in Sins.

With Windows 11, it appears you cannot have a directory within the OneDrive directory tree that is not backed up by OneDrive.

Clearing the checkbox on the Mods-Rebellion v1.85 folder in the Accounts tab of the OneDrive client now means that those files will not be downloaded to you machine. OK, fine I get that.

However, it also prevents you from creating a directory of that same name.

If you do OneDrive automatically renames it by adding your machine name to the directory name in an attempt to resolve a mismatch in the directory structures between the local filesystem and that on the OneDrive server.

I cannot see where this "feature" can be disabled.

The cynic in me just sees this as a sleazy marketing scam to convince you that you need to give Microsoft some £, $ or € to increase you online OneDrive capacity.

So is there something that I have missed?

Now, with the Advent of SinsII around the corner, I probably don't see Rebellion getting many changes.

But could we at least have a configurable Mod location for SinsII as OneDrive seems to be a disaster in this particular case.
