My Windows system tray is no longer showing up on my taskbar, help!

No taskbar showing up in Windows version 20 H2 (OS build 19042.1052)

Greetings,

My Windows system tray is no longer showing up on my taskbar in Windows version 20 H2 (OS build 19042.1052).  I ran the Windows update approximately two days ago and ever since then my system tray only sporadically appears (in its normal lower right-hand location on my taskbar).

I had my IT company look at my computer today and they said this is being caused by the star dock software. If someone could assist me in getting back my system tray I would be grateful!

Best regards,

Rip

Yeah, that happened to me also but a simple reboot fixed it for me fortunately!

Start10 v 1.96...

Fences v.3.0.9.11

Windowblinds 10.87 (062 - Windows 10 Edition) - 64 bit OS

on Windows 10 Enterprise (19041.vb_release191206-1406) ... according to the WindowBlinds about screen.

I hope this information helps...

Also, just FYI, as a work-around... Once I enabled "News and Interests" the system tray re-appeared.

Hello,

Sorry to hear you are having issues.

you can also click on toolbars/desktop and that shows the System Tray.

It appears the Win update that brought News and Interest might be the

issue , not sure yet but it's being looked into ...

Now that I turned off News and Interest , no issue .

That Windows update is indeed buggy.  It has been reported to Microsoft.  They didn't properly test the code path for when the news and interests option was disabled on the taskbar, perhaps they assumed everyone would love it so much they wouldn't turn it off?

The trigger (not root cause as thats a bug in the new Windows update itself), is Fences based on your list of apps.

Neither Start10 or WindowBlinds are known to expose this bug due to how they work.

Try updating to Windows 21H1.

Try updating to Windows 21H1.

It will not help.  Both 20H2 and 21H1 got the broken patch as Microsoft were very keen to roll out this news and interests feature.  Probably because there is money in eyeballs on msn.com which is where the content comes from.
